MARIE SENESAC

VERGENNES — Marie K. (McCormick) Senesac, 93, of Vergennes, died at home on May 25, 2014, with her children at her side.

Marie was born Aug. 22, 1920, in Bristol, Vt. She was the daughter of Clinton and Ella (Little) McCormick.

She attended grade school at the one-room schoolhouse now on the grounds at Shelburne Museum. After graduating from Vergennes High School, she received her business degree from Champlain College, Burlington, Vt. She worked at the Burlington Free Press.

BURTON SMITH

CASTLETON — Burton Edward Smith, 83, of Castleton died on May 27, 2014, at 3:45 a.m.

He was born in Syracuse, N.Y., on March 31, 1931, to John Timothy Smith and Esther Sweet Smith. He grew up in Syracuse, N.Y. He graduated from Most Holy Rosary High School in Syracuse, N.Y., and Stonehill College in Massachusetts.

CONNIE TOMAINO

ORWELL, Vt./COLONIAL BEACH, Va. — A celebration of the life of Constance “Connie” Tomaino, a former Orwell resident who died at age 91 on Jan. 2, 2014, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, at the First Baptist Church of Fair Haven, Vt.

MARGARET WADE

RUTLAND — Margaret M. Wade, 80, of Rutland, formerly of Orwell, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

She was born Dec. 16, 1933, in Orwell, the daughter of Wallace and Ida Mae (Blake) Ash Sr. She received her early education in Orwell and married Alfred Richard Wade on Dec. 28, 1953. She and her husband farmed in the Orwell area. Relatives say they both enjoyed working over the years at the Rutland County Fair and the Addison County Field Days. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crosswords puzzles and fishing.

MARY WEDGE

STARKSBORO — Mary Louise (Farr) Wedge, 82, passed away on May 27, 2014, at her home in Starksboro. She was born on January 30, 1932, the daughter of Freda (Cram) and Wallace Farr, in Lincoln. Her mother remarried when Mary was a small child, and her step-father, Duane Dearborn, was a big influence in her life. She attended school in Lincoln, then went to Bristol High School.

GEORGE H. BURNHAM JR.

BETHEL — Graveside committal services and military honors for George H. Burnham Jr., 80, formerly of Cornwall, who died Jan. 23, 2014, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, at Fairview Cemetery in Bethel, with Pastor Thomas Harty officiating. 

DOUGLAS FLEMMING

ST. JOHNSBURY — Douglas Flemming, 66, of St. Johnsbury died Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., after a brief illness. Born April 22, 1948, in Randolph, he was the son of the late Donald W. and Elloe (Wakefield) Flemming.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 29, at 11 a.m. in Hancock Cemetery, Hancock. A memorial service will follow at the Hancock Church.

HOWARD GORDON JR.

BRIDPORT — Howard F. Gordon Jr., 67, died peacefully at home Wednesday, May 21, 2014, in Bridport.

Born in Middlebury April 25, 1947, he was the son of the late Howard F. Sr. and Lucille (Dorey) Gordon.

He was a United States Navy Veteran serving during the Vietnam War.

He worked as a landscaper for employer and long-time friend Kirk Fiske.

CHARLES JOHNSON

LEICESTER —Charles Ellsworth Johnson, age 81, died April 25, 2014, in Brooksville, FL.

Charlie was born in Leicester on Feb. 17, 1933. He was the son of Joseph E. “Pinky” Johnson and Hildred (Dow) Johnson-Larkin. He was a graduate of Brandon High School, class of 1952. He afterwards attended Randolph Agriculture School. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1953 and was stationed at Annapolis, Md., working in the Naval Justice Department, and later as a weapons instructor for the Navy’s Mid-Shipmen.

BURTON H. KIMBALL JR.

MIDDLEBURY — Burton H. Kimball Jr., 84, of Middlebury died Wednesday evening, May 21, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington after a brief illness.

Born Jan. 21, 1930, in Middlebury, he was the son of the late Burton Sr. and Florence (Germain) Kimball.

He attended local school in Middlebury and then enlisted in the United States Army serving as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean conflict.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
