JAMES M. LECOMPTE

MIDDLEBURY — James M. LeCompte, 51, fought a long and courageous battle with kidney disease and died peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015.

Born March 12, 1963, in Middlebury the son of Arvery and Nancy (Grant) LeCompte.

James loved his cat Sparky and also enjoyed fishing, camping, bingo and spending time with family and friends.

DORIS SENECAL

MIDDLEBURY — Doris Mae Senecal, 91, of Middlebury died Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

She was born in Salisbury on Nov. 10, 1923. She was the daughter of Willard and Lucy (Ladd) Morse. She grew up in Salisbury and received her education in Salisbury Plains School and Lake Dunmore School.

Jan. 15, 1944, she married Irvin Senecal in Brandon. They moved to Whiting in 1956 and then to Middlebury in 1986. He predeceased her May 15, 2007.

PETER MORRIS

WEST FERRISBURGH — Peter DuBois Morris went into the light on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, a fitting date for someone whose birthday was on Halloween.

He was born in New York City in 1943, the son of Mary Brewster (Derby) Morris and DuBois Schanck Morris Jr. He was educated at Darrow, Blair Academy, and at Syracuse University. His love of skiing brought him to Vermont, where he practiced architecture for many years. In 1977, he married Pennie Beach and they lived together at Basin Harbor.

WILLIAM BARNARD

MIDDLEBURY — William H. Barnard, age 94, died Sunday, Feb. 22, at the Residence at Otter Creek in Middlebury, Vermont. He was born on Sept. 3, 1920, in North Arlington, N.J., the fourth son of Alfred and Anna (Eckhardt) Barnard. He was a graduate of Hasbrouck Heights High School in Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., where he met his future wife, Jean Ackerly, and Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa., class of 1942.

STARKSBORO — Alton P. Brown Sr., 62, died after a courageous battle with terminal cancer on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, at Green Mountain Nursing and Rehabilitation in Colchester with his loved ones by his side.

FREDERICK LOWD SR.

NEW HAVEN — Frederick “Fred” E. Lowd Sr. passed away at his residence in New Haven on the morning of Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, after a battle with cancer.

Born July 28, 1927, in Haverhill, Mass., the son of the Rev. Harry and Katherine (Dennison) Lowd, Fred was a 1947 graduate of Bristol Agricultural School in Bristol, Mass. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United State Navy and proudly served during WWII. Fred went on to marry his wife of 59 years, Erma (Burrington) on Feb. 25, 1956, in South Easton, Mass.

ROGER MCQUEEN

BRANDON — Roger Bruce McQueen, 87, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, in Brandon. He was born on Aug. 9, 1927, in Port Washington, N.Y., the son of Robert and Elin Kristin (Gustafson) McQueen.

He was raised in Port Washington, graduated from Port Washington High School and attended Nassau Community College, Long Island, N.Y. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at age 17. He served in World War II and was called back for the Korean War. He served seven years total.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
