ELIZABETH GINSBURG

BRISTOL — A memorial service for Elizabeth Ginsburg, 76, of Bristol will be held on Sunday morning Nov. 13 in the Walkover Gallery, 15 Main Street, Bristol. People will gather at 9:30 a.m. and the ceremony will start at 10 a.m. Elizabeth passed away on Sept. 29, and the obituary may be found in the Oct. 6 edition of the Addison Independent.

MIDDLEBURY — Brenda Lea Brown “Sis,” born June 15, 1967, passed away peacefully at her home in Middlebury on October 31, 2016, with her sister Pam and best friend Linny by her side.

MURIEL NEEL

PANTON / WARREN, Vt. — Muriel R. Neel, 63, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016 due to injuries sustained from a fire. Born in Burlington on Aug. 16, 1953, she was the daughter of the late John C. Snow Sr. and Marion (Bissell) Snow May. On Oct. 3, 1987, she married Harold T. Neel in Warren.

MICHAEL DRAKE

LONG BEACH, Calif. / WEYBRIDGE, Vt. — Michael D. Shows Drake, 59, of Long Beach, Calif., passed away suddenly from heart failure at his home on Oct. 13, 2016. He was born in Middlebury on Nov. 29, 1956 to Rev. Louise Shows and Dr. Marion Shows. Michael grew up in Vermont and England. He had lived in California for many years, but regularly visited his family in Weybridge. He is survived by his mother and three siblings.

A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to H.O.P.E.

Muriel R. Neel , 63, Panton

PANTON / WARREN, Vt. — Muriel R. Neel, 63, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016 due to injuries sustained from a fire. PATRIC MCNULLA

HOUSTON, Texas — Retired U.S. Air Force Captain Patric Michael McNulla Sr., husband of Paulette Legault McNulla, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016. Captain McNulla was a veteran of 23 years. He was born Dec. 9, 1938 in Vergennes, Vt., son of James McNulla Sr. and Kathleen (Norton) McNulla. Pat was a graduate of Vergennes High School.

ELLEN BURKE

GAYSVILLE, Vt. — Ellen A. Burke, 68, passed away Oct. 11, 2016 at Porter Medical Center. She was born April 25, 1948 in Long Island City, N.Y., the daughter of John and Agnes (Cross) Peace. She is survived by her husband, Michael H. Burke of Gaysville. Ellen graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in English in 1970, where she met the love of her life.

Jacob "Jack" Spahn, 82, Addison

ADDISON — Jacob “Jack” Spahn, 82, passed away in the comfort of his family on Oct. 18, 2016, following a long illness. He was born in Trenton, N.J. on Nov. 15, 1933 to Jacob Sr. and Mary (Pegg) Spahn.

Jack attended Trenton State Teachers College where he played a number of sports and was a member of the band and chorus. Following college he moved to the Jersey Shore, where he was an assistant manager for Metlife Insurance Company and then district manager for Wyeth Lab before moving to Vermont with his wife Victoria and their children.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
