DOUGLAS ROSSIER

DANVILLE — Douglas Ariel Rossier, recently of Danville, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2017 with family by his side. Born on July 21, 1919 in Montgomery, Vt., Doug was the son of the late Lawrence and Alberta (Ariel) Rossier.

LAURA PAQUETTE

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. / PALATKA, Fla. — Laura (Butler) Paquette, 91, of Middlebury, Vt. and Palatka, Fla. passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 11, 2017 at Kiva Assisted Living facility in Palatka, Fla. She was born Aug. 15, 1925 in Glastonbury, Conn., the daughter of Ivy Butler. She attended schools in Glastonbury and Manchester, Conn. She married Henry V. Paquette in 1947 and moved to Cornwall, Vt. where they purchased a dairy farm and raised their four children.

MARGARET OTTINGER

SHELBURNE — Margaret Ottinger passed away peacefully, as she had lived, with husband Matt of 28 years by her side in their home in Shelburne, Vt. on Monday, March 13. Her children Harvey (21) and Lila (17) were Margaret’s greatest joy in life. She loved watching both of them grow and succeed in life. Diagnosed with brain cancer two years ago, Margaret was asked what was on her “bucket list” and her wish was just to continue providing normalcy to her children, which she did with love and grace.

CAROLE HUESTIS

BRIDPORT — Carole Huestis, a lifelong resident of Addison County, passed away unexpectedly on March 10, 2017 at the age of 55.

Carole was born to parents Merton and Alma (Weller) Huestis on Sept. 19, 1961 in Burlington, Vt. She grew up the third youngest of fifteen children and graduated from Middlebury Union High School.

MITZI GOWARD

PANTON — Mitzi Valentine Goward, 87, of Panton, Vt., passed away at home on Friday, March 10, 2017 surrounded by her wonderful caregivers. Born Jan. 3, 1930 in Flushing, N.Y., she was the only child of Edward and Marguerite (Sanner) Valentine. She enjoyed the love of family especially her maternal grandparents who shared their home. As a child she was fascinated with sculpture and art in general and her mother instilled a love of music in her that lasted all her life.

WILLIAM BERTOLET

MIDDLEBURY — William Henry “Bill” Bertolet 3rd, 93, of Middlebury, VT, passed away at his residence on Friday, March 10, 2017. He was born August 13, 1923, in Philadelphia, PA, the son of William Henry Jr. and Esther Mae (Hardy) Bertolet.

Bill was a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He retired in 1989 as President of the family business, Laurel Products Corp.

RICHARD EVANS

ADDISON — Richard Eugene Evans (Dick) passed into glory on March 7, 2017, surrounded by family at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was there with hopes of participating in a clinical trial that would eradicate his lymphoma, but he ultimately chose heaven. Heaven’s choir has gained a tenor.

John Willard Wesley, “JDub,” 91, passed away Saturday March 4, 2017 at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center with Margaret Putnam Wesley, his wife and sweetheart of more than 70 years, at his side.

LINDA J. MEACHAM

VERGENNES — Linda J. Meacham, 55, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017 at University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.

She was born Dec. 1, 1961 in Clinton, Mass., the daughter of Charles and Helen (Hubbard) Gizzonio.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

MICHAEL MCGUIRE

SHOREHAM — Michael Joseph McGuire, Jr., 72, passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at his home in Shoreham.

Mr. McGuire was born in Queens, N.Y. on Nov. 24, 1944. He was the son of Michael and Lissette (Shenfield) McGuire, Sr. He grew up in Queens, where he received his early education. He worked in the Hell’s Kitchen section of Manhattan of New York City as a heavy truck mechanic.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
