Marjorie Bergen Rosane

MIDDLEBURY — Marjorie Bergen Rosane, 78, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Fletcher-Allen Healthcare, Burlington, following a brief illness. Born in Bound Brook, N.J., Dec. 16, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Arthur D. and Gladys (Romaine) Bergen.

Marjorie graduated from the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital School of Nursing in Boston, Mass. in 1950. In 1951 she married Richard C. Rosane and continued practicing as an R.N. until 1958 when she resigned to raise her family in Lincoln, Mass.

In 1977 the family moved to Weybridge, and then in 2000 to Middlebury. She volunteered for many civic and church organizations, including completing 30 years of service at the Round Robin Porter Hospital Auxiliary in March, 2008. She made and donated quilts for AIDS babies and other needy newborns in Massachusetts, Maine and Vermont.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Rosane of Middlebury; two sons, Robert Eric Rosane and his partner, Jolinda Leclair, of Middlesex, and John Arthur Rosen and his wife, Melissa, of East Brunswick, N.J., and grandchildren, Shira, Kayla and Jonah of East Brunswick, N.J.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on June 16, 2008, at the Congregational Church of Middlebury.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sanderson Funeral Service, Middlebury.


Captain Alfred Kirchhoff

RAINBOW LAKE ESTATES, Fla. — Captain Alfred Kirchhoff, Ret. Merchant Marines, 96, died on April 29, 2008. He was born on March 7, 1912, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Theodore and Theresa Kirchhoff.

At the age of 3 he went to Germany with his parents and was raised there until the age of 14.

He started his training on the “Peking,” a German training/trader ship, which is at the Seaport Museum in New York City. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines, sailing on tankers for National Bulk Carriers. He became a captain at the age of 29. He then worked for one of the world’s largest deep sea salvage and rescue companies, Merrit, Chapman and Scott, covering the entire North Atlantic to the West Indies and the Gulf of Mexico. He had over 487 documented rescues to his credit.

At one point he was a resident of Middlebury, Vt.

He was a member of the Rainbow Lakes Travel Club and for the last eight years played Santa Claus at the Rainbow Lakes Santa House.

He is survived by his second wife, Patricia Gerling Kirchhoff; three sons, George Kirchhoff and his wife, Kim, of Ripton, Robert Kirchhoff of Lincoln, and Howard Francis of Rainbow Lakes Estates, Fla.; his daughter, Mary Carrico and her husband, Larry, of Londonderry, Ohio; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife of 69 years, Carol Kirchhoff, in February 2000, and his brother Theodore Kirchhoff.

Private cremation arrangements are under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home in Crystal River, Fla.

Wesley Robert Ambrose

BRANDON — Wesley Robert Ambrose, 69, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. He was born in Middlebury on April 4, 1939, the son of Robert and Esther A. (Supernois) Ambrose.

He attended schools in Salisbury and graduated from Middlebury High School.

Mr. Ambrose worked as a proofreader at the Standard Register Company in Middlebury for over 28 years. He was a Civil War historian and his other interests included railroads, photography and music.

He was a charter member of the Living Water Assembly of God Church in 1992. Her served the church as treasurer and was a member of the board of directors. He was also a member of the church’s men’s ministry group and served as the director of the men’s ministry for area churches in Brandon.

Wesley is survived by his aunt whom he helped care for, Pat Whitney of Brandon; three nephews; his half-sister, Wanda Bishop of Leicester; his stepbrother, George McCray of Salisbury; and many great-nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a stepbrother, Gordon McCray.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 4, at the Leicester Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Lewis Butterfield, pastor of the Living Water Assembly of God Church, Forestdale, co-officiated with the Rev. Larry Keiser, pastor of the Nazarene Church. Graveside committal services and burial followed in West Salisbury Cemetery.

Carl Francis Bushee

VERGENNES/MITCHELL, Ind. — Carl Francis Bushee, 47, of Mitchell, Ind., died of an apparent heart attack on Tuesday April 29, 2008, in Franklin, Tenn. He was a long-time resident of Vergennes.

He was born Feb. 18, 1961, in Bennington, the son of Howard and Janice Booska Bushee.

He is survived by his mother, Janice Bushee; a brother, Matt Bushee; two nephews, Josh and Jake Bushee, all of Vergennes; an uncle, Emery Booska, and his wife, Suzanne, of Milton, N.H.; and several cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Friday, May 9, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Vergennes. Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery in Vergennes.

Friends may call at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes on Thursday, May 8, from 6 to 8 p.m.
