MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police assisted a local woman who was the target of a phone scam on Oct. 10. Police said the woman had received a call from a person who told her she owed money and would be arrested if she did not send in payment.

Police told her it was a scam and that they would not arrest her.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

  Investigated a report that someone had spray-painted graffiti on a freezer at Middlebury Union High School on Oct. 10.

  Responded to a reported theft at Olympia Sports at The Centre shopping plaza on Court Street on Oct. 10.

  Were informed of alleged drug transactions at a Case Street apartment on Oct. 10.

  Received a report from a local man who alleged he had been attacked on Merchants Row by three men wearing black hoodies on Oct. 10.

  Investigated a trespassing complaint at a Delancy Lane residence on Oct. 11.

  Investigated a report of a man self-administering intravenous drugs at the Maplefields store on North Pleasant Street on Oct. 11. Police served a no-trespass order on the man.

  Responded to a report of a large open fire in the Seminary Street Extension area on Oct. 11.

  Investigated a report of loud all-terrain vehicles traveling on Three Mile Bridge Road and Creek Road on Oct. 12.

  Cited Adrian A. Moore, 20, of Weybridge for retail theft, in connection with an incident at Kinney Drugs on Oct. 12.

  Responded to a family dispute in the Cross Street area on Oct. 12.

  Assisted a woman who said a strange man had followed her to her car on Main Street during the evening of Oct. 12.

  Received a report that a man had exposed himself to a woman walking on High Street on Oct. 13.

  Investigated a report of two youths threatening another youth at MUHS on Oct. 13.

  Received a report of three men allegedly tampering with mailboxes in the Rogers Road area on Oct. 14. Police said the men were gone upon their arrival.

  Gave a drunk, local woman a ride home on Oct. 14.

  Helped locate a sober person to give a ride home to a Middlebury College student seen stumbling on Main Street on Oct. 14.

  Investigated a family fight at a North Pleasant Street home on Oct. 14.

  Served a temporary restraining order on a local man on Oct. 14.

  Responded to an illegal dumping complaint in the Wilmar Street area on Oct. 14. Police said they located the culprit.

  Investigated a report of a man threatening to damage Rosie’s Restaurant on Route 7 South on Oct. 14.

  Received a report that a pregnant woman, accompanied by a small child, was begging for money in The Centre parking lot on Oct. 14. Police said the woman had left when they arrived.

  Cited James R. Payne, 22, of Cornwall for driving under the influence after a stop on Court Street Extension on Oct. 15. Police said they measured Payne’s blood-alcohol content at 0.137 percent. The legal limit for driving is 0.08 percent.

  Ticketed a minor for using a fake identification card in an attempt to buy alcohol at Hannaford Supermarket on Court Street Oct. 15.

  Were informed of a break-in into a vehicle parked of North Pleasant Street on Oct. 16.

  Cited Jeremy D. Mattson, 32, of Hanover, N.H., for driving under the influence following an investigation on Bakery Lane on Oct. 16. Police said they measured Mattson’s blood-alcohol content at 0.092 percent.

  Responded to a report of a gunshot noise in downtown Middlebury on Oct. 17. Police said their investigation turned up nothing out of the ordinary.
