ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police operating out of the New Haven barracks are investigating a number of recently reported burglaries at county hunting camps.

On the morning of Nov. 8, troopers received a report of a burglary at a hunting camp off Natural Turnpike Road in Ripton. The owner of the camp, Michael Lefebvre of Milton, told police that when he arrived at the camp that morning he found someone had forced their way into the camp, a tool shed, an RV trailer and a separate two-story garage.

Items, reportedly worth several thousand dollars, were reported stolen, including a green 2004 Polaris Ranger 500 utility vehicle, log splitter, welder, air compressor, various tools, ladder tree stand, refrigerator, coffee maker, TV and more.

Police believe the burglary occurred sometime in the last four weeks. They observed tire tracks of a smaller vehicle on the grass around the property, as well as two separate foot tracks in the garage — one work boot tracks and the other tennis sneaker tracks. They believe the Polaris Ranger UTV was driven from the property toward Ripton village.

The report came a day after state police were called to investigate a break-in at a different hunting camp off Ripton Road in Lincoln. Police said someone had broken a window and stolen several bottles of alcohol, a range finder and other items.

A third camp, this one off Carp Cole Road in Starksboro, was burglarized sometime between Nov. 6 and 11. Among the items stolen were a Husqvarna chainsaw, a single shot 12-gauge shotgun with a large amount of ammunition, and two pairs of Vermont Tubbs snowshoes.

These incidents are under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact VSP New Haven at 388-4919.
