VERGENNES — Vergennes police on Jan. 27 cited two Addison County residents they described as transients for retail theft in a high-profile Chittenden County case that dates back to late 2011.
Cited were Heather Kandzior, 30, formerly of Middlebury, and Francis Valiquette, 38, a Salisbury native, for stealing from the Williston Toys ’R Us, an act that was caught on video and broadcast late last year on local television.
Vergennes police said they were investigating on behalf of Williston police and issued the citations on behalf of that department.
In other recent action, Vergennes police:
•On Jan. 23 responded to a domestic dispute on Walker Avenue between a brother and sister; police are investigating whether an assault occurred and charges should be filed.
•On Jan. 23 referred to the state’s attorney’s office for possible prosecution a complaint that a man might have violated the terms of an abuse prevention order by forwarding a Facebook page to a woman.
•On Jan. 23 went to a New Haven Road home on behalf of the Department of Children and Families to check whether a man not supposed to have contact with children was doing so at the residence; police determined he was not, but will monitor the situation.
•On Jan. 24 took a truant middle school student to Vergennes Union High School.
•On Jan. 24 checked out a report of two men carrying a woman with black eyes out of a Main Street apartment and determined she had recently been in a car accident and had not been harmed by the men.
•On Jan. 24 cited Alexander Goulette, 21, of Williston for possession of about 4.3 grams of marijuana and speeding after stopping his car for doing 52 mph in a 30 mph zone on West Main Street.
•On Jan. 25 looked into a complaint from a VUHS student that an unknown male had sent an inappropriate message to her via Facebook.
•On Jan. 25 returned to its owner a wallet turned in by a citizen.
•On Jan. 25 handled a minor two-car accident in the Goodrich Aerospace parking lot.
•On Jan. 25 ticketed a driver for doing 67 mph in a 30 mph zone on West Main Street.
•On Jan. 26 helped the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad at a Bowman Road residence.
•On Jan. 26 mentored two VUHS students in physical fitness.
•On Jan. 26 were told a pickup parked at VUHS had been keyed.
•On Jan. 26 helped Vermont State Police at a three-car accident at the junction of Monkton Road and Route 7; police said VARS transported two people away from the scene.
•On Jan. 27 were told a jacket had been stolen from a VUHS student’s locker.
•On Jan. 27 spoke to the Vergennes Union Elementary School principal about two uncooperative students.
•On Jan. 28 cited Cathy Fleming, 38, of Vergennes for a civil count of driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance.
•On Jan. 28 looked unsuccessfully for a dog reported to have been dragged behind a pickup truck in the West Main Street area.
•On Jan. 28 accepted prescription drugs for disposal at the station.
•On Jan. 28 stopped a car reported to have been driven erratically on Route 7 and advised the driver to pull over and get some rest.
•On Jan. 29 ticketed a car parked overnight on Green Street in violation of the city’s winter parking law and ordered it towed.
