Middlebury Police Log: Police respond to assault, thefts, dogs, long-lost gun

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Douglas Lazarus, 68, of Middlebury for domestic assault following an alleged incident at a Maple Street residence on April 28. Police took a statement from the alleged victim and photographed an injury.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Cited Sarah C. Pierce, 40, of Middlebury for retail theft, in connection with an incident at Hannaford Supermarket on Court Street on April 23. Police said Pierce allegedly gathered items from the store and brought them to the counter with a receipt to obtain money.

Along with the retail theft citation, police said Pierce was served a no-trespass order for Hannaford’s.

•  Received a report of a woman driving away from Maplefields on North Pleasant Street without paying for $20 in gas on April 23.

•  Responded, with local rescue officials, on April 23 to an accident on South Main Street. Police said a female jogger collided with the side of a van while running. Police said the woman was taken to Porter Hospital to be treated for a head injury.

•  Ticketed some East Middlebury residents for an offense involving their dogs, who allegedly killed some chickens in the East Main Street area on April 23.

•  Investigated a report on April 24 of someone using a woman’s lost credit card four times without her permission.

•  Cited James D. Gold IV, 22, of Bolton, Mass., for driving under the influence, following a stop for speeding on South Main Street on April 25.

•  Responded to a disorderly conduct report on Court Street on April 25.

•  Euthanized a sick woodchuck that was on the Courtyard by Marriott property on April 25.

•  Received on April 25, from the purchaser of a storage unit at Paquette Self Storage, a gun that had allegedly been reported stolen more than 30 years ago out of Brooklyn, Ohio.

•  Assisted a local woman who claimed to have been threatened by an individual at the Blue Spruce Motel on Route 7 South on April 25.

•  Received a report that someone had broken a mirror off a vehicle parked off Airport Road on April 26.

•  Investigated the theft of a Subaru Legacy from the Porter Hospital campus on April 27. Police said Bristol police later found the vehicle.

•  Assisted a local man who had been receiving unwanted phone calls on April 28.

•  Were informed that someone had driven into another vehicle in the Hannaford Supermarket parking lot on April 28.

•  Responded to a report of a man trying to use a fake ID to buy alcohol at Hannaford Supermarket on April 28.

•  Assisted other law enforcement officials in restraining an unruly patient at Porter Medical Center on April 29. Police said the patient had to be placed in restraints.

•  Were informed that someone had driven away from the Middlebury Village Depot on Court Street without paying for $60 in gas on April 29.

•  Assisted an elderly man in locating his vehicle after he thought it had been stolen from the Seymour Street Extension area on April 29. The man had forgotten where he had parked the car after completing his walk in Wright Park.

•  Took into protective custody two intoxicated women on April 30.
