ADDISON COUNTY — On May 20 Vermont State Police at the New Haven barracks received a report of a missing person. A friend reported that Octavian Graur, 26, had driven her to Ferrisburgh in an older green Mercedes C280 to drop her off and that Graur was expected to drive from Ferrisburgh to his new summer employment in Osterville, Mass., but hadn’t reported to work.

After looking into the matter, Trooper Armstrong informed the friend that Graur was in police custody.

State police from the Williston barracks had attempted to stop a vehicle allegedly driven by Graur on Route 7 in Charlotte for speeding, but it got away. The Williston trooper said Graur’s vehicle failed to yield and continued on Route 7 at excessive speeds, passing cars and running a red light. The vehicle was later stopped by Shelburne police; and the driver, identified as Octavian Graur of Palm Springs Garden, Fla., was arrested and cited for attempting to elude a police officer and negligent driving. Graur was lodged at the Chittenden Regional Correction Facility for lack of $1,000 bail.

In other recent activity, VSP:

•  On May 20 at 4 p.m. responded to a three-car crash on Route 7 near the intersection of Route 53 in Salisbury.

Police said Amanda Baslow, 18, of Middlebury was southbound on Route 7 in a 2006 Subaru Impreza and in the process of turning left onto Route 53, and at the same time Robert Pockett, 30, of Middlebury was driving a 2000 Ford Focus behind Baslow’s Subaru and also turning left.

At that point, police allege, 54-year-old Susan James of Orwell was driving a 2005 GMC pickup truck southbound on Route 7 behind those two cars and didn’t see the turning cars.

James’s pickup struck Pockett’s Ford causing it to strike Baslow’s Subaru.

Both Baslow and Pockett sustained minor injuries, as did a 4-year-old in Pockett’s car. All three were transported to Porter Hospital for evaluation. All three vehicles sustained damage.

Police said quick responses from local rescue and fire agencies ensured the scene was quickly cleaned up and no further accidents occurred while Route 7 was backed up.

•  On May 23 at 8:11 p.m. stopped a vehicle driven by Justin Gero, 21, of Ripton on Route 7 in Leicester for driving 67 mph in a 50 mph zone. During the stop, police said Gero was found to be under the influence of alcohol, and that a small child was in the vehicle as well. Ultimately, the trooper cited Gero for driving under the influence, endangering a child and providing false information to a police officer. He was released following the processing.

•  On May 24 at 3:26 p.m. were called to a motorcycle/pickup truck collision on Route 7 in New Haven. Police said Royal Clark, 28, of Shoreham was driving a 2011 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle southbound behind Robert King, 35, in a 2009 Chevy Silverado when the pickup stopped behind a vehicle attempting to turn left onto Hunt Road. Clark tried to stop his motorcycle, police said, but was unable to and collided with the bumper of the truck. Several witnesses stopped to lend assistance, and New Haven fire and Middlebury rescue squads responded to the scene. Clark was transported to Porter Hospital to be evaluated for possible neck injuries. Any witnesses to this crash are asked to contact Trooper Cappetta at the New Haven barracks.

•  On May 25 at 12:25 a.m. stopped a motor vehicle driven by Karl Davis, 21, of Arlington on Route 22A in Orwell for traveling at 64 mph in a 50 mph zone. Police cited Davis for possession of marijuana.

•  On May 25 took two actions wrapping up a two-month investigation. On March 28 the town of Panton had reported a theft of metal gates from the water treatment facility. Last week state police cited Christopher Laflam, 26, of Vergennes into Addison court for possession of stolen property, and police issued an arrest warrant for Laura Armell, whom they said was also involved in the theft.

•  On May 26 at 4:30 a.m. were called to investigate a rash of mailbox vandalisms that morning on Royce Hill Road, Fisher Road, Murray Road and several other roads in Orwell. Anyone with information regarding this spate of vandalism is asked to contact Trooper Doxsee at the VSP’s New Haven barracks at 802-388-4919.

•  On May 27 at 2:48 p.m. were called to a report of an assault in Ferrisburgh. Further investigation led to the arrest of Shayne Thompson, 56, of Ferrisburgh for an alleged domestic assault. Police processed Thompson at the New Haven barracks and lodged him at Chittenden County Correctional Center.

•  On May 27 at approximately 7:29 p.m. stopped a vehicle driven by Misti M. Baker, 32, of Leicester on Route 53 in Leicester for operating a vehicle with an expired inspection. Police cited Baker for driving with a criminally suspended license.

•  On May 28 at 5:32 p.m. responded to a motorcycle crash on Route 7 in Leicester. Police said Brian Whittemore, 27, of Ripton was northbound on Route 7 from Leicester Four Corners when he brought his Suzuki motorcycle onto the rear tire, lost control and crashed in the middle of Route 7 causing his motorcycle and himself to slide an undetermined distance.

Whittemore sustained non-incapacitating injuries to his legs and back and was transported to Porter Hospital. The motorcycle sustained less than $3,000 in damage.

This accident is under investigation; police ask that any witnesses contact that VSP in New Haven at 802-388-4919.

•  On May 28 at approximately 5:26 p.m. received a report of an intoxicated male driver who was behind the wheel of a green Ford Ranger pickup truck with two male passengers on the Lake Champlain cable ferry headed toward Shoreham. Troopers stopped the vehicle on Route 74 in Shoreham and cited David P. Cheney, 42, of Bridport for driving under the influence.
