Vergennes Police Log: Authorities investigate suspicious activity

VERGENNES — Vergennes police dealt with a variety of matters between Nov. 2 and 8, including reports of suspicious people and a number of traffic enforcement contacts.

During those seven days, Vergennes police:

• On Nov. 2 issued a no-trespass order to a Vergennes resident on behalf of Colchester police.

• On Nov. 3 stopped a motorist for driving 55 mph in a 30 mph West Main Street zone; as well as speeding, police cited the driver for operating without insurance, valid registration and valid license plates.

Middlebury Police Log: Reported theft was caught on store video

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police were informed on Thursday, Nov. 5, of the recent theft of some items from Martin’s Hardware on Route 7 South.

Police said store officials reported having video showing a shoplifter in the act. The investigation continues.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

• Assisted the Middlebury Fire Department at the scene of a small fire on Mill Street on Nov. 2.

• Investigated a noise complaint at a Court Street apartment complex on Nov. 2.

Vergennes Police Log: Door-to-door salespeople draw suspicion

VERGENNES — Vergennes police dealt with a variety of incidents between Oct. 26 and Nov. 1, including looking into suspicious person complaints that turned out to be door-to-door salespeople, offering parenting advice, and ticketing one motorist for driving more than twice the posted speed limit.

In those seven days, city police:

• On Oct. 26 served an abuse-prevention order to a female resident of First Street.

• On Oct. 26 dealt with an illegal dumping complaint at the New Haven Road car wash.

Middlebury Police Log: Woman cited on multiple charges

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Ashleigh Hickey, 23, of Middlebury for driving under the influence, second offense, and driving with a suspended license, following an incident in the Meadow Glen Drive neighborhood on Oct. 29.

A witness alleged that Hickey had been driving erratically through the neighborhood, including onto fields and over people’s lawns, according to police. Authorities said they measured Hickey’s blood-alcohol content at 0.195 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08.

Vermont State Police Log: Police investigating vandalism spree

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police are investigating multiple incidents of vandalism to motor vehicles and property last Friday night and into Saturday morning. Authorities said that between 11 p.m. on Oct. 30 and 5 a.m. on Oct. 31, vehicles were vandalized on River Road in Bristol, South Street in New Haven and Snake Mountain Road in Weybridge.

Addison County Criminal Court Log for Nov. 5

ADDISON COUNTY — In recent activity in Addison Superior Court, Criminal Division, the following took place:

Cele Bisguier, 51, of Bronx, N.Y., pleaded guilty to an Aug. 1 charge of driving under the influence, and was fined $667.

Gary S. Briggs, 27, of Bristol pleaded innocent to a Sept. 26 charge of driving under the influence, and was released with conditions.

Vergennes Police Log for Oct. 29: Man ticketeed for stopping Route 7 traffic

VERGENNES — Vergennes police ticketed a Middlebury man for obstructing traffic on Oct. 22, an action they took after they said he was found standing in the middle of Route 7 in Ferrisburgh, stopping cars and asking for a ride home. The incident also marked the third time city police had interacted with the man in three days. Ticketed was Albert “Alpine” Bingham, 64.

Middlebury Police Log for Oct. 29: Two pedestrians hit in downtown Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police reported that a vehicle driven by a Middlebury man struck two pedestrians as he was turning left from Main Street onto Merchants Row this past Saturday at around 11:30 a.m.

Both pedestrians were transported to Porter Hospital for non-incapacitating injuries. Police said on Tuesday they had not filed charges but their investigation continues.

Vermont State Police Log for Oct. 29: Starksboro woman cited for drunk driving

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police alleged that a Starksboro woman became extremely drunk, drove a car into a fence and then drove away.

Troopers were notified on Oct. 22 at a little before 5 p.m. that a car driven by a woman had crashed into a fence at a Burt White Road home in Huntington and left the scene. State police investigated and determined that Eloise C. Pasho, 48, of Starksboro had been operating the vehicle in question.
