Refurbished bridge in Lincoln reopens

LINCOLN — Town Highway 1 Bridge 19 located on East River Road in Lincoln opened to all traffic this past Thursday evening at 6:20 p.m. — on schedule. The bridge closed on July 8 to all traffic and was scheduled to remain closed until Aug. 27.

Woman to dig into ecology, sense of place by walking length of a river

LINCOLN — The New Haven River flows down from the Green Mountains into Otter Creek, and during the last week of July, a graduate student will walk from its headwaters to its confluence — close to 25 miles. Along the way, Sonia DeYoung will introduce herself and her project to as many people along the river as she can, people with whom she hopes to talk in more depth once she completes the walk.

Lincoln bridge will be closed for seven weeks

LINCOLN — Some Lincoln residents will need to plan extra travel time into their routines the summer, as Lincoln TH 1 Bridge 19 will be closed for about seven weeks starting Wednesday, July 8. The bridge, located over the New Haven River on East River Road about one-half mile south of TH 1 and Gove Hill Road, is scheduled to be closed to all traffic for 50 days, reopening on Aug. 27.

Replacement of Lincoln bridge will affect traffic

LINCOLN — The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) announced that construction was beginning the week of June 8 to replace the Lincoln TH 1 Bridge 19 located over the New Haven River. The bridge is located on East River Road about one-half mile south of TH 1 and Gove Hill Road.

Video: Paddlers challenge New Haven River

On April 18, the New Haven River was home to the Vermont Paddlers Club's annual race. A group of 39 paddlers from the Northeast and Quebec challenged the river's technical drops, rock gardens and steep ledges. Reporter Evan Johnson produced this video with footage from Ben Barlow.

ANeSU teachers: We have no confidence in Adams

LINCOLN — A majority of faculty and staff within the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union on Monday supported a vote of no confidence in Superintendent David Adams, the teachers’ union said.

Hours after making that announcement on Tuesday, the union, the Addison Northeast Education Association, delivered to the ANeSU board the results of a climate survey it conducted, which found that staff disagree with administrators on a number of key issues.

Hundreds seek ouster of ANeSU superintendent

LINCOLN — For 26 seconds, applause rocked the walls of Lincoln Community School’s tiny gymnasium Tuesday evening. The cause of the ovation was not, as one might suspect, a game-winning basket or conclusion of a musical performance.

Rather, a local resident asked her supervisory union board to fire the superintendent.

During visitors’ business of the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union board meeting, Koran Cousino of Starksboro presented a petition signed by hundreds of voters who support the dismissal of ANeSU Superintendent David Adams.

Town Meeting Wrap 2015: Lincoln

LINCOLN — Lincoln residents approved all articles as warned at their town meeting Monday evening; nevertheless, the meeting ran well past 10 p.m.

In the hot-button topic of the night, voters approved a bond up to $59,000 to renovate the existing town office; the measure won by a margin of 223 to 161.

Town Meeting Preview 2015: Lincoln

LINCOLN  — Residents in Lincoln will get together at Burnham Hall on Monday, March 2, at 6 p.m. to discuss and vote on municipal and elementary school budgets at their annual town and school meetings. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Burnham Hall on Tuesday, March 3, so residents can cast ballots for town officials and on the Mount Abraham Union High School budget.

On Tuesday voters will also determine the fate of a bond to pay for spending up to $590,000 to renovate and expand the existing town office — a step townspeople have mulled for years.
