Lincoln Community School play reflects year's studies

LINCOLN — United States citizens’ rights and responsibilities and how people can affect positive change in their communities provide the framework for an original musical theater production, “A Glance at the Lincoln 5/6 Year,” by Lincoln Community School fifth- and sixth-graders. The Friday, May 6, production marks the culmination of a year-long study integrating the humanities and science.

Lincoln Democrat Mari Cordes touts health care experience in run for House

LINCOLN — Mari Cordes has helped heal a lot of patients during her many years as a Registered Nurse.

The Lincoln Democrat is now writing a recovery plan for the state of Vermont that she hopes to administer as a member of the House of Representatives.

Cordes, 57, confirmed last week that she will run for one of the seats in the Vermont House representing Bristol, Lincoln, Monkton and Starksboro. She joins a growing field of candidates in the Addison-4 district.

2016 Lincoln Town Meeting Wrap Up

LINCOLN — Following an amendment proposed by Lincoln Community School board Chair Rebecca Otey, Lincoln residents voted to raise the elementary school spending plan by $17,400 on the floor of the annual school meeting at Burnham Hall Monday evening. The vote raised the final school budget to $2,216,122, which those at the meeting then approved.

Lincoln school to host French festival March 4

LINCOLN — The Lincoln Community School will celebrate the culmination of their study of French culture on Thursday, March 4, from noon-2:30 p.m. Families and community members are welcome for all of the festivities.

Fiddle documentary in Lincoln

LINCOLN — The documentary “Pa’s Fiddle: American Music” will be screened on Friday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Library.

The movie shows a Jan. 6, 2012, concert based on the music written about in the “Little House on the Prairie” series of books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The concert was filmed at the Loveless Barn in Franklin, Tenn. before a live audience, for broadcast by the PBS television network.

Lincoln candidates mostly unopposed

LINCOLN — In the only contested race on the Town Meeting Day ballot in Lincoln, Matthew Collins is challenging incumbent Mark Truax for second constable.

All Lincoln selectboard members are running unopposed. But there are a series of “musical chairs”-like shifts, resulting from the vote at last year’s town meeting to lengthen two of the selectboard seats from one-year to two-year terms.

Lincoln Library plans February events

LINCOLN — Lincoln Library has planned a slate of programs and workshops for the month of February that are targeted at both children and adults.

An adult coloring program, titled “Color Your World,” is on Wednesday, Feb. 10, from 1-2 p.m. A selection of colored pencils will be available, or participants may bring their own. Cynthia Kling will lead this fun and informative event. She will talk a bit about color and the color wheel and then distribute pages for people to color.

Lincoln fire may be linked to pot-growing operation

LINCOLN — An experienced investigator suspects that the fire that destroyed a Ripton Road home in Lincoln on the night of Jan. 14 was caused by an electrical apparatus for illegal marijuana growing.

According to Robert Patterson, firefighters at the scene of the fire discovered thousands of dollars worth of marijuana plants in the barn at 3625 Ripton Road, tipped off by the smell as fire engulfed the house. The barn, with the marijuana plants inside, did not burn down.

Fire destroys Lincoln home, no one is hurt

LINCOLN — A fire, believed to have been started accidentally by faulty electrical wiring, destroyed a Lincoln house on the Ripton Road Thursday night. Around 70 firefighters from Lincoln, Bristol, Ripton, Starksboro and New Haven responded to the blaze, in which no one was hurt.

“When we got there the structure was completely engulfed in flames, and there was nobody in it,” said Lincoln Fire Chief Dan Ober.
