BRISTOL — “Big cups for a big success!” said Bristol Planning Commission chair Chico Martin, doling out red solo cups of sparkling cider to the planning commissioners, town office staff and newspaper reporter gathered in Holley Hall last Tuesday.

It was the planning commission’s first meeting since the updated Bristol Town Plan, the product of eight years of the effort, passed with 68.7 percent of the vote on Election Day.

BRISTOL — Katie Raycroft-Meyer’s seat on the planning commission is safe for now.

The Bristol selectboard on Monday decided to keep Raycroft-Meyer on the commission following a vote two weeks earlier that put her seat in jeopardy. After speaking with her and a dozen citizens on Monday, Selectboard Chair Peeker Heffernan, selectwoman Carol Wells and selectman Joel Bouvier made this decision with just enough board members to hold a quorum.

BRISTOL — When Katie Raycroft-Meyer — the newest addition to the Bristol Planning Commission — received a call from Bristol Town Administrator Bill Bryant Tuesday morning, she was surprised, to say the least.

Bryant informed her that she might lose her newly appointed seat because of her potential participation in a legal proceeding in which the town is involved — an accusation she adamantly denied.

BRISTOL — The Bristol Planning Commission looks poised to move ahead with a proposed town plan at its meeting next Tuesday when it considers a compromise on the proposed gravel mining prohibition zone.

Since fall, commissioners have struggled to agree on a chief component of the proposed plan: a zone that prohibits resource extraction in and around Bristol’s downtown area. At the planners’ last meeting on Jan. 17, four versions of the no-extraction zone were discussed.

Bristol planners work to resolve extraction zone hangup

BRISTOL — At its Tuesday meeting the Bristol Planning Commission told a group of 30 concerned townspeople that a zone prohibiting gravel extraction in and around Bristol’s downtown area would still be included in the new town plan. The perimeters of that zone and the language that accompanies it are still being hashed out.

After commissioners realized last year that there were discrepancies between different accepted versions of that no-extraction zone, they decided to go back to the drawing board to better define it.

Bristol puts extraction zone back on table

BRISTOL — A land-use zone prohibiting resource extraction is one of the central elements of the Bristol Planning Commission’s proposed town plan update. Due to this zone’s importance and a recent discrepancy over its exact boundaries, the commission this week decided to revisit this part of the plan at a special meeting on Jan. 3.

Acting Chair Chico Martin explained at Tuesday’s commission meeting that this was possible because the town plan had not yet been presented to the selectboard for its review.
