Middlebury Police Log: Police take man to hospital for evaluation

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police responded to a report of a man attempting to harm himself in the Marble Works business complex on Sunday, March 29.

Police located the man, who was taken to Porter Hospital for evaluation.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Were informed on March 23 that a man was missing from a Route 7 South home. The man eventually returned home, police said.

Police arrest seven in connection with Ferrisburgh break-ins

FERRISBURGH — Vergennes police on Friday morning arrested seven people — four adult men and three minor girls — in connection with a series of break-ins at camps in Ferrisburgh.

The adults arrested are: 19-year-old Seamus C. Doolan of Essex Junction; Brian J. MacKenzie, 18, of South Burlington; Nathan P. Morrill, 20, of Burlington and Matthew J. Shepardson, 21, of Hinesburg. Police issued juvenile citations to the girls and released them into the custody of their parents.

Middlebury Police Log: MUHS student cited for disorderly conduct

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police on March 16 cited a juvenile student at Middlebury Union High School for disorderly conduct by electronic communication and hate-motivated crime, after that male student allegedly made threats via Facebook judged to be of a threatening and racist nature.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Responded to a report of the theft of a dog from the backyard of a Harrow Way home on March 16. Turns out the alleged “thief” was trying to return the dog, which had run away from home, police said.

Vergennes Police Log: Woman charged with drunk driving, resisting arrest

VERGENNES — Vergennes police early this past Saturday afternoon arrested and issued multiple citations to a Bristol woman they described as “severely intoxicated.”

After receiving a call just after 1 p.m. on March 21, police cited Tracey A. Cook, 37, for driving under the influence of alcohol, second offense; resisting arrest; disorderly conduct; and simple assault on a police officer. Police allege that her blood-alcohol content tested at 0.223 and lodged her at the Chittenden County Correctional Center.

Opinion: Legal marijuana the right move

I’m writing today in response to the recent letter signed by various chiefs of police regarding marijuana law in Vermont.

I’m very glad that they have such concern for the young people of Addison County. As the father of a pre-teen I truly appreciate that they are looking out for the welfare of young people in our community. Reading their letter, however, leaves me feeling that they are a bit out of touch with reality.

Vergennes Police Log: Cops investigate assault, alleged sex tape

VERGENNES — Vergennes police had a busy seven days between March 9 and 15, dealing with theft complaints and drug and alcohol issues, helping several motorists who were locked out of their cars, investigating an assault and an alleged sex tape, and handling a case of a motorist driving off without paying for gas that turned into a multi-town car chase ending with a Vermont State Police arrest in Hancock.

Police also earlier this week were still investigating a March 13 robbery of the People’s United Bank on Main Street in Vergennes; see story in this edition.

Middlebury Police Log: Man cited for DUI following traffic stop

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Timothy Dragon, 36, of Middlebury for driving under the influence (second offense), following a traffic stop on Route 7 South on March 15.

Police allege that Dragon’s vehicle almost struck a guardrail as it turned from Route 125 onto Route 7. Police said they measured Dragon’s blood-alcohol content at 0.206 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08.

Vergennes Police Log: U.S. marshals help cops catch suspect

VERGENNES — Vergennes police and U.S. marshals on March 6 arrested a third suspect from a Feb. 28 incident involving drugs and attempting to elude police.

The marshals arrested Jesse Ware, 21, a North Dakota resident who has been living on Potash Bay in Addison, in Quechee on this past Friday and turned him over to Vergennes police.

Vergennes police lodged Ware at the Chittenden County Correctional Center on several citations, including being a fugitive from justice, attempting to elude police, and providing false information to a police officer.

Middlebury Police Log: Family finds missing woman

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police launched an investigation into the whereabouts of a 51-year-old Bennington woman reported missing from downtown Middlebury on March 6. The woman had reportedly been experiencing some mental health issues and confusion prior to her disappearance.

Fortunately, a family member called early the next morning to confirm the woman had been located.

Bristol police deal with many minor disturbances in February

BRISTOL — The Bristol Police Department in February dealt with a host of mostly minor incidents, including domestic disturbances, drunk drivers and fighting students. They also ticketed or towed motorists who continue to defy the town’s winter parking ban on some streets.
