Opinion: Milne has right vision for state

Posted on September 3, 2014 |
By Manchester Center

As a young adult living in Vermont, I feel so privileged to reside in a state filled with natural beauty, rich history, and kind-hearted people. However, like many young Vermonters, I’m at a crossroads over where I plan to live as I approach the next stage in my life. The direction of our state government is an important factor in my decision, as it is for many other young Vermont residents. I want to live in a state with economic security, employment opportunities and a quality education system.

ANeSU communities see tax levies increase

Posted on August 18, 2014 |
By Zach Despart

ADDISON COUNTY — Most property owners in the five-town area are seeing higher tax bills than last year.

Selectboards in Bristol, Lincoln, Monkton, New Haven and Starksboro set municipal tax rates in the past month or so to pay for town staffing obligations and highway spending.

Town leaders have also received final homestead and non-residential school tax rates from the state, allowing towns to send out 2014-2015 tax bills. Each of the five towns are served by the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union.

ADDISON/PANTON — Taxpayers in Addison and Panton, as expected, are receiving higher bills in 2014 than in 2013, but the increase in Panton is not as dramatic as Addison Northwest Supervisory Union officials had projected.
