VERGENNES — Acting on behalf of Vergennes police, Burlington police on March 2 arrested a 51-year-old Vergennes resident for aggravated domestic assault and added two other charges following a March 1 incident at a Main Street, Vergennes, apartment.

Cited was Russell Hulst, a New Haven Road resident. Police allege that on March 1 he held a woman on the floor of her apartment, scratching her in the process, and yanked a ring off her finger, causing her pain and swelling. They allege Hulst also smashed one of the victim’s cell phones and pocketed another so that she was unable to call police. Police also said there were children in the apartment at the time, and that he dumped the contents of the victim’s purse on the floor.

As well as assault, police charged Hulst with larceny from a person because he left the premises with the cell phone, and refusal to let a person call emergency services. Hulst was held over the weekend in the Chittenden County Correctional Center, and was arraigned on Monday.
