Middlebury Police Log: Man cited for disorderly conduct and simple assault

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Zachary C. Faber, 18, of Alamo, Calif., for disorderly conduct and simple assault during an event at Middlebury College’s Nelson Arena on April 22. A security guard at the event reported a student had assaulted him. Officers found Faber restrained by event security, according to police.

Police alleged Faber was uncooperative, struggled and refused to comply with verbal commands during his transfer into custody. Police measured Faber’s blood-alcohol level at 0.203 percent. Police said Faber had a previous civil conviction for underage drinking. Police therefore also cited him with a criminal count of drinking underage.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Ticketed two Middlebury Union Middle School students for being minors in possession of tobacco on school grounds on April 16.

•  Heard from a North Pleasant Street resident who alleged on April 16 that a houseguest had stolen a phone, medicine and a hat from the residence.

•  Assisted a woman to get inside a locked vehicle containing a child on South Street on April 16.

•  Received a report that someone had stolen a black backpack containing a 15-inch Mac Pro laptop, two flash drives and a pair of Apple ear-bud headphones from a Middlebury College student on April 17.

•  Received a report that a Bobcat skid steer had been stolen from G. Stone Commercial Group on Foote Street on April 17.

•  Responded to a report of a barking dog that was chasing children in the Leno Lane neighborhood on April 17.

•  Responded to a report of a baby left unattended in a vehicle in The Centre shopping plaza lot on April 18.

•  Investigated a report of an autistic man causing a disturbance at a Bakery Lane business on April 18.

•  Cited Melanie A. Sargent, 42, of Middlebury, for retail theft, after an alleged shoplifting incident at Kinney Drugs on Court Street on April 18.

•  Responded to a report of someone illegally burning leaves and brush in the Munson Road area on April 18.

•  Received a complaint about trespassers at a North Lane property on April 18.

•  Cited Shaun R. Rublee, 25, of Bristol, for a criminal count of driving with a suspended license, following a stop at the intersection of Buttolph Drive and Washington Street on April 18.

•  Served a no-trespass order on April 19 to a man who had been denied alcohol at Two Brothers Tavern on Main Street on April 19.

•  Confiscated around 60 fireworks rockets from a student’s vehicle parked in the MUHS lot on April 19. Police said the student was warned not to possess illegal fireworks in the future.

•  Received from a good Samaritan on April 19 a check belonging to a local resident. The owner came in and claimed his check.

•  Cited Addison H. Disesa, 22, of Wynnewood, Pa., for negligent operation of a motor vehicle, after he was allegedly seen driving aggressively on Academy and Franklin streets on April 19.

•  Investigated a report of a man wanted by the Vermont State Police staying at an East Middlebury residence on April 19.

•  Investigated a report of an injured man lying on Maple Street on April 19.

•  Issued Court Diversion paperwork to two minors found to be drinking at a party near the Abbey Pond Trail on Case Street on April 20. Police said the party involved several youths who scattered when police arrived.

•  Cited a juvenile student for being in possession of prescription narcotics at MUHS on April 20. Police said the student and a friend admitted to having smoked marijuana off school property at lunchtime. The student was subsequently found to be in possession of Oxycodone and Hydrocodone pills, according to police.

•  Assisted local fire officials in freeing a cat from a storm drain on the Overbrook Drive neighborhood on April 20.

•  Responded, with local fire officials, to a report of vehicle on fire at the Route 7 intersection in front of The Centre shopping plaza on April 20. Police said the undercarriage of the vehicle was on fire.

•  Assisted a local family whose daughter had threatened to commit suicide on April 21. Police said the young woman had jumped out of the family vehicle on the way to Porter Hospital.

•  Investigated a report of a man panhandling in The Centre parking lot on April 21.

•  Responded to a report of two vehicles being broken into in the Ridgeline Road parking area on April 21.

•  Took into protective custody a very drunk woman on South Main Street on April 21.

•  Cited Benjamin J. Cabranes, 20, of Bethany, Conn., for unlawful trespass on Middlebury College grounds on April 22.

•  Issued Court Diversion paperwork to a Middlebury College student for underage drinking. Police said the student had been walking down the middle of Shannon Street.

•  Issued Court Diversion paperwork to a bicyclist who had been riding with no lights down College Street on April 22.
