ADDISON COUNTY — The Vermont State Police and rescue squads from several towns responded on Saturday afternoon when an SUV ran into a barn off Route 7 in New Haven in an accident that sent the driver to the hospital.

Troopers said Katherine T. Hone, 19, of Killington was driving a 2004 GMC Yukon southbound on Route 7 when the vehicle traveled across the northbound lane and off the east side of the roadway, where it collided with a large barn on the stretch north of the Town Hill Road intersection.

The Yukon came to rest inside the barn, where Hone was entrapped.

Multiple area agencies — including the New Haven, Bristol and Middlebury rescue and heavy rescue crews — responded to the scene to assist VSP.

Hone was transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care; on Tuesday afternoon she was listed in critical condition.

The SUV was called a total loss.

State police said it does not appear speed or alcohol were contributing factors in this collision. The weather and road conditions were described as clear and dry.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or operation prior to the collision is asked to contact VSP at 802-388-4919; information can also be submitted anonymously online at www.vtips.info or by texting “CRIMES” (274637) to Keyword: VTIPS.
