MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated a report that someone had broken into a vacant Middle Road South residence to steal all of the copper piping on Sept. 12.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Helped persuade a Mary Hogan Elementary School student to show up for classes on Sept. 9.

•  Investigated an identity theft complaint involving a young Seymour Street resident on Sept. 9.

•  Assisted the Counseling Service of Addison County with a client in the Rogers Road area on Sept. 9.

•  Took into protective custody a drunken man found on the railroad tracks off Maple Street on Sept. 10. The man was taken to detox in Rutland, according to police.

•  Assisted a Valley View resident who alleged on Sept. 10 that someone had been stealing things from her apartment. Police urged the resident to lock her doors and windows.

•  Responded to a report of someone smashing the window out of a vehicle parked off Bakery Lane in order to get inside and steal some items on Sept. 10.

•  Investigated a burglary at a North Pleasant Street apartment on Sept. 10.

•  Broke up a domestic disturbance at an East Main Street residence on Sept. 10.

•  Initiated a death investigation at a Danyow Drive residence on Sept. 11. Police said Warren Davis Jr., 83, had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

•  Ticketed three youths for being minors in possession of tobacco on Middlebury Union High School grounds on Sept. 11.

•  Investigated reported littering in the Halpin Road area on Sept. 11. Police said a nearby resident found evidence within the trash that led police to one of the alleged offenders. That offender was asked to pick up the litter and not produce any more, according to police.

•  Responded to a domestic dispute at a South Pleasant Street residence on Sept. 12.

•  Took into protective custody a man seen staggering on Court Street on Sept. 12.

•  Received a report that some money had been stolen from a purse at a Buttolph Drive residence on Sept. 12.

•  Informed a man on Sept. 12 that he had to leave the town gazebo because it was closed for the evening.

•  Received a report that someone had stolen an iPhone from a bag in the boys’ locker room at MUHS on Sept. 13.

•  Issued court diversion paperwork to a youth on Middlebury College campus on Sept. 13.

•  Investigated a report of a woman “acting strangely” in the Hannaford supermarket off Court Street on Sept. 15. Store officials told police the woman was barefoot, toothless, tall, with a pink streak in her hair and hit her head on the door as she was leaving. Police said the woman had left by the time they had arrived.

•  Got help for a Twin Circles resident who had allegedly been feeling despondent on Sept. 15.

•  Cautioned a man who had allegedly been popping out of the shadows to scare people in the Cedar Court neighborhood on Sept. 15.

•  Received evidence in a potential sexual assault case from Porter Hospital on Sept. 15.
