MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police responded to a report of a suspicious package that had been delivered to the Middlebury College mailroom on Oct. 4. Police determined the package contained marijuana. The recipient denied any knowledge of why the package had been sent, according to police, who continue to investigate the matter.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Investigated a report of a distraught woman at a North Pleasant Street residence on Sept. 30.

•  Responded to a report of a family dispute at a North Pleasant Street residence on Sept. 30.

•  Investigated a report of a Middlebury Union Middle School student being threatened on Sept. 30.

•  Warned a High Street resident who had allegedly been setting off fireworks on Sept. 30.

•  Told an unwanted person to leave a Seymour Street residence on Sept. 30.

•  Served a stalking order on a man in the Main Street area on Sept. 30.

•  Served a no-trespass order on a man on Sept. 30 who was not wanted on Mary Hogan School grounds.

•  Heard from an East Main Street resident on Oct. 1 who said someone has been removing rocks from her property along the Middlebury River bank. The woman said the removal of the rocks is compromising the integrity of the riverbank. Police advised the woman to post her property against trespassers.

•  Investigated a trespassing report filed by an East Main Street resident on Oct. 1. The woman told police she believes someone has been sleeping in her woodshed and opening the gate to her yard. She also reported periodically seeing a suspicious red vehicle with dents on the passenger and driver’s side doors. Police told the woman to call them the next time she notices anything suspicious and to lock her woodshed.

•  Responded to a report on Oct. 1 of several kids riding scooters and rollerblading in the travel lane of Case Street.

•  Received a report that someone had left a dog in a vehicle that had its windows rolled up while parked off Court Street on Oct. 1.

•  Received a report that someone had scratched a car while it was parked off Charles Avenue on Oct. 1.

•  Served a no-trespass order on a Middlebury Union High School student who had allegedly been behaving in an aggressive manner on Oct. 1.

•  Responded to a report of a man staggering into traffic on Route 7 North on Oct. 2.

•  Interviewed an Otterside Court resident who had allegedly been contacted by a phone scammer on Oct. 3.

•  Warned a man who was violating the town’s ordinance against public urination, off Washington Street on Oct. 4.

•  Spoke with the parent of an MUHS student who reported on Oct. 4 that someone had posted threatening statements on her daughter’s Facebook page. Police said the school resource officer resolved the complaint.

•  Arrested Thomas Husk, 54, of Middlebury for violating his terms of release (not to consume alcohol) on Main Street on Oct. 4.

•  Received a complaint about a barking dog at a Peterson Terrace residence on Oct. 4.

•  Investigated a shoplifting complaint at Shaw’s Supermarket on Washington Street on Oct. 5. Police said a man left the store without paying for some beer and food items. The man is described as being in his late 20s, thin, around 5 feet-8 inches tall, wearing blue jeans and a black leather jacket.

•  Received a report about a man going through garbage at the Marble Works Pharmacy off Maple Street on Oct. 5.

•  Assisted Middlebury firefighters at the scene of a smoke-filled building on Washington Street on Oct. 5.

•  Responded to a report of a man using a hacksaw to take a bike out of the bike rack off Merchants Row on Oct. 5. Police said the man produced a receipt proving he was the bike’s owner.

•  Took an emotionally distraught woman to Porter Hospital to receive mental health counseling on Oct. 5. Police said the woman had been driving on Route 7 South and had allegedly made suicidal threats.

•  Helped Vermont State Police with a disorderly, drunken person off Route 7 on Oct. 5. Police stood by while Counseling Service of Addison County officials evaluated the person.

•  Released, to Middlebury College Public Safety, a drunken woman found lying on the ground off Hillcrest Road on Oct. 5.

•  Quieted a loud party hosted by Middlebury College students at a Shannon Street residence on Oct. 6. Police issued court diversion paperwork to one of the students for being a minor in possession of alcohol.

•  Checked, at the request of Vermont State Police out of Brattleboro, on the welfare of a Court Street resident on Oct. 6.

•  Heard from a local woman who said she returned to her house on Oct. 6 after two weeks to discover the locks had been changed. Police said the locks had been changed by the woman’s husband, who reported that his wife was supposed to be moving out. The man agreed to give her a key until her name is deleted from the lease for the residence.

•  Responded to a trespassing complaint at McDonald’s Restaurant on Court Street on Oct. 6.

•  Handed over, to Middlebury College Public Safety, a drunken man who was seen falling down on Storrs Avenue on Oct. 6.

•  Warned a person for violating the town’s open container ordinance on College Street on Oct. 6.

•  Investigated a report of suspicious activity in the Abbey Pond Road area on Oct. 7.
