VERGENNES — Vergennes police recently cited or ticketed five minors for alcohol offenses, including one for driving under the influence of alcohol.

That DUI citation, two tickets and two other possible charges all stem from a Nov. 16 incident. Police were alerted of three youths rummaging through cars on First Street and then leaving the scene in a car. Police pulled over the car in Panton and said it was driven by Devon M. Hallock, 18, of Burlington. Police cited him for DUI and for furnishing alcohol to minors.

Police also ticketed two passengers, one from Vergennes and one from Burlington, for underage consumption of alcohol. And, they said, additional charges may be pending on two of the three youths for theft from a motor vehicle.

Also last week, police ticketed two Vergennes Union High School students for alcohol offenses, one for consumption of alcoholic beverages on school grounds and one for furnishing the alcohol to the first student.

Last week, Vergennes police also issued citations for two earlier offenses.

Brian A. Sloan, 21, of Park Ridge, N.J., was cited for DUI/drugs for an Oct. 23 incident on Route 7 in which police were alerted to a car being operated erratically.

Jessica L. Whitney, 26, of Vergennes was cited for retail theft for allegedly stealing pregnancy test kits from Kinney Drug Store on Nov. 7, and for theft of services for driving off from the Small City Market on Nov. 15 without paying for gasoline.

In other incidents between Nov. 11 and 17, Vergennes police:

•  On Nov. 11 helped a car owner get into a locked vehicle on Panton Road.

•  At a Nov. 11 traffic stop on Green Street cited James P. Waite, 28, of St. George for driving with a criminally suspended license and arrested his passenger, William O. Wright, 30, of New Haven on an outstanding warrant.

•  On Nov. 12 returned a driver’s license to its owner after a citizen turned it in.

•  On Nov. 12 backed up the Addison County Sheriff’s Department at a Monkton traffic stop.

•  On Nov. 14 helped Bristol police conduct a search in which drugs and paraphernalia were found.

•  On Nov. 14 helped the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad with an uncooperative patient in Panton.

•  On Nov. 14 and 15 delivered subpoenas in Vergennes for the sheriff’s department.

•  On Nov. 14 heard from a local resident who was concerned for a local woman’s welfare.

•  On Nov. 14 looked into the theft of a wallet from a car parked at a Main Street business; police said the car window was smashed to access a backpack that held the wallet, which contained a small amount of cash.

•  On Nov. 14 issued a no-trespass order to a City Limits bar customer who had become disorderly.

•  On Nov. 15 helped VARS at a Ferrisburgh medical call.

•  On Nov. 15 dealt with a minor two-car accident on MacDonough Drive.

•  On Nov. 15 handled a woman’s complaint that she was receiving unwanted text messages.

•  On Nov. 15 helped Vermont State Police by directing traffic in Panton around a disabled vehicle on Route 22A.

•  On Nov. 15 checked a report of the smell of marijuana around a Main Street apartment building.

•  On Nov. 15 and 16 received tips about illegal drug activity in the area.

•  On Nov. 16 cited Kyle Adams, 21, of Vergennes for DUI after a stop at the intersection of Green Street and New Haven Road.

•  On Nov. 17 responded to a possibly physical argument between a young couple in the Champlain Farms parking lot, an incident that remained under investigation earlier this week.

•  On Nov. 17 helped Middlebury police by issuing a no-trespass order to a city woman.

•  On Nov. 17 picked up a loose dog on Green Street and took it to the Vergennes Animal Hospital.
