MARTHA HANSEN

LINCOLN, Vt./FORT DAVIS, Texas — A memorial service for Martha “Marty” Sykes Hansen, who died in October at age 79, will be held on Monday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. at Lincoln United Church in Lincoln, Vt., the town where they summered for many years.

FLORENCE O'NEILL

BRISTOL — Florence Boszko Kensek ONeill of Bristol died Nov. 2, 2015.

She was born April 26, 1929.

She is survived by two sons, Gene Kensek and his wife Ann of Lincoln, and Nicholas Kensek and his wife Joy of Yardley, Pa.; and five grandchildren, Shea Kensek, Drew Reick, John Samuel Kensek, and John and Samuel Kensek.

GENEVIEVE PALMER

NEW HAVEN — Genevieve Margaret (Huntley) Palmer, 97, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, at her home in New Haven.

She was born April 23, 1918, in Port Henry, N.Y.

She graduated from Sherman Parks Seminary High School in Port Henry in 1935, and she also graduated from Troy Business College in Troy, N.Y., in 1937.

She married C. Harlan Palmer on April 14, 1941.

PATRICIA PAQUIN

WEYBRIDGE — Patricia M. Boise Paquin, 80, died Sunday evening, Nov. 8, 2015, at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. Born Dec. 23, 1934, in Cornwall, the daughter of Frederick J. and Hazel M. (Benson) Boise.

Patricia graduated from MHS in 1953 and was the star pitcher on the girls’ softball team. In 1951 and ’52 she would lead the teams to state titles with both her pitching and batting athletic abilities.

PIETER SMITS

BRIDPORT — Pieter Smits, 93, of Bridport went to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 5, 2015.

He was born in Belsum, Friesland, The Netherlands, on March 1, 1922, the second of seven children, to Tjepke and Jitske (Binnema) Smits. He grew up and attended school in Belsum and then graduated from Agriculture School in Fryntjet. As a young man he enjoyed drumming in the city band and was a member of the Dutch resistance during World War II.

HERMANCE VIAU

NEW HAVEN — Hermance Dagenais Viau passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, Nov. 8, surrounded by her family, at the age of 91.

She was born in Marionville, Ontario, in February 1924 to Alice Marion and Joseph Dagenais. She was raised as a farm girl who once thought about joining a convent until she caught the eye of Maurice Viau. They were married in June of 1947 and immediately started a family. In 1962, they moved their family to Vermont to work on various dairy farms in the New Haven area where they continued to work hard and raise their family.

BRIAN CLARK

PHOENIX, Ariz. — Brian Clark, 69, of Phoenix, Ariz., went to be with the Lord on Nov. 2, 2015. He was born on Nov. 5, 1945, in Bristol, Vt., the son of Donald D. Clark and Martha Jane (Weddell) Clark.

He grew up on the family farm in Waltham and graduated from VUHS in 1964.

LINDA SMITH

LEICESTER — Linda Mae (Miller) Smith, 70, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

Linda was born in Great Bend, Kan., on July 7, 1945. She was the daughter of Chester and Lois (Young) Miller. She grew up in Larned, Kan., where she received her early education, at her parents’ farm and from Larned High School, class of 1963. She furthered her education at Kansas Wesleyan University at Salina, Kan., and completed technical program from Wichita, Kan., in the field of Laboratory Technician.

DENNIS BOLDUC

BRIDPORT — Dennis Roch Bolduc, age 89, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, at his home in Bridport.

Mr. Bolduc was born in St. Isadore, Quebec, on Dec. 21, 1925. He was the son of Henri and Leonie (Lemieux) Bolduc. He came to Bridport with his family, on the train, in 1926.

KARL CRANNELL

TICONDEROGA, N.Y. — Karl Lewis Crannell of Ticonderoga died Oct. 28, 2015. He was born in Glens Falls Dec. 16, 1953, to Jane Lewis and Murray Gordon Crannell.

Crannell wrote “John Stark, Live Free or Die,” worked at Fort Ticonderoga, and since 2009 was Chimney Point State Historic Site interpreter in Addison, recently receiving a recognition letter from Gov. Shumlin.

Crannell is survived by Amy Moore Crannell, whom he married in 1981; family; and friends.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
