DONALD LURVEY

WEST RUTLAND — Donald Earl Lurvey, 81, died Friday, June 12, 2015, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Royalton on Jan. 5, 1934. He was the son of Iliff and Ethel (Clark) Lurvey. He grew up in Royalton and East Bethel where he received his early education. He graduated from Winchendon (Mass.) High School, class of 1952. He returned in the early 1960s and made his home in Brandon.

JAMES MEACHAM SR.

FERRISBURGH — James W. Meacham Sr., 53, got called home Monday, June 15, 2015, at his home in Ferrisburgh.

He was born Oct. 29, 1961, in Middlebury, the son of Robert and Patricia (Whitney) Meacham Sr.

He is survived by his siblings, Bob Meacham II, Bruce Meacham Sr., Brent Meacham Sr., Robin Vose, John Seaman and Lisa Wright; his children, James W. Meacham Jr., Tanya Lawrence and Eric W. Meacham; and his nine loved grandchildren. He also had many others who he considered children and grandchildren. He was a very loved and respected man.

RANDALL AND PAULINE STEADY

FERRISBURGH — Combined memorial services for Randall and Pauline Steady of Ferrisburgh will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Vergennes. Randall died June 12, 2011, and Pauline died March 30, 2015.

All are invited to a luncheon immediately following the service at St. Peter’s Parish Hall.

RITA MURRAY

MIDDLEBURY — Rita W. Murray, 93, passed away Monday morning, June 15, 2015, at The Residence at Otter Creek.

Born October 7, 1921, in Middlebury, she was the daughter of the late Mose & Elizabeth (Weinle) Wemitt.  

She was a graduate of Middlebury High School. She afterward became a secretary working for the State of Vermont. She retired from the University of Vermont Extension Service after 20-plus years.

BRANDON — Jacqueline Michaela Oprendek, 63, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at her home in Brandon.

She was born in Rutland on June 27, 1951. She was the daughter of Joseph and Joyce (Wisell) Babcock. She grew up in Rochester, Pittsford and Shoreham where she received her early education. She was graduated from Johnsburg High School in Johnsburg, N.Y., class of 1970.

SALISBURY — Jay Kevin Torrey, Sr., 64, a lifelong Salisbury resident and loving father of his two children and many others that he took under his wing throughout the years, passed away suddenly at Porter Hospital surrounded by his beloved family on Tuesday, June 9, 2015.

MIDDLEBURY — Christa Onion Aleshire, 60, of Middlebury died June 2, 2015, at UVM Medical Center in Burlington.

She was born in Rutland on Sept. 1, 1954, daughter of Carlos L. and Catherine (Cannon) Onion.

She was a 1972 graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy. She attended Emerson College for a year, and Windham College for three years.

She married Michael C. Aleshire on Nov. 3, 1984.She was a longtime Wallingford resident.

MICHAEL BINGHAM

LINCOLN — Michael Bingham, 54, passed on May 21 in his Lincoln home following a short illness. Born Sept 4, 1960, son of Gordon and Gertrude (Roscoe) Bingham.

Mike was a carpenter by trade. He was a nature lover, bird watcher and gardener. An avid hunter and fisherman. A true “Free Spirit.”

He is survived by a son, Joshua; brother, Robert (Mary); and sisters Lynn, Janie (Doug), and Nancy (Roger). He was predeceased by his father, sister Colleen and brother John.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
