THOMAS WHITTEMORE

BRISTOL — Thomas M. Whittemore returned to his heavenly home to be with his wife, Kimberly, on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2016. His firm belief in Jesus supported him throughout his life and ultimately gave him peace.

Tom was born on Jan. 14, 1950, in Middlebury, the son of Gordon W. and Fern Dwier Whittemore. On Sept. 8, 1984, Tom married the love of his life, Kimberly Dattilio, who predeceased him on Feb. 8, 2000.

RUTH BILL

BRISTOL — Ruth Millington (Glen) Bill (aka Wendy) left this world on Jan. 21, 2016, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury, under the compassionate care of the hospital and hospice staff and the love and devotion of her family.

KEITH BROWN JR.

BRISTOL, N.H. — It all began on Jan. 23 1964. Keith “Shorty” Brown Jr. was born to Caroline and Keith Brown Sr. in Randolph, Vt. He grew up in Lincoln, Vt.

The end of his life here on earth came on Jan. 12, 2016. In those 51 years Keith had an incredibly colorful life. Those that knew him over the years will understand.

DONALD BURCHARD

SALISBURY — The memorial gathering “In Celebration of the Life” of Donald Bishop Burchard was held on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at the Middlebury American Legion Post 27.

Family and friends shared in the service. Daughter Brenda Burchard delivered the eulogy, and daughter Gayle Burchard shared memories and a recitation of the “Surveyor’s Prayer.”

Friends Ken Weston and Gerry Gossens also shared stories.

Following the ceremony the family received friends for a time of refreshments.

SUSAN DUNN

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — Susan B. Dunn, 68, a resident of Wesley Health Care Center, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, after battling ALS.

Susan was born in Addison, Vt., on Jan. 25, 1947, the daughter of the late William J. and Susie B. Roberts McEvilla.

Susan was a licensed practical nurse working for Community Care Physicians in Latham, N.Y. She was a member of Grace Bible Church in Cohoes, N.Y., and was very active in the church.

WILLIAM EKROOS SR.

MIDDLEBURY — William A. Ekroos Sr., 73, died Friday evening, Jan. 22, 2016, at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington surrounded by his children.

He was born June 16, 1942, in Hartford, Conn., the son of Tiovo and Jesse (McMurtry) Ekroos.

STARKSBORO — Cindy Ingram passed away peacefully while in home hospice care on Thursday evening, Jan. 14.

Cindy was born in Burlington on June 14, 1962.

ALICE ‘PETE’ PARRISH

GRANVILLE — Alice “Pete” Parrish, 86, of Granville, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at her home.

She was born Oct. 31, 1929, in Brandon, the daughter of William and Agnes Kyle. Pete attended school in Brandon and Waitsfield and was married to William Parrish on Sept. 10, 1949. She had lived in Granville since 1949.

MARJORIE 'PEGGY' RAYMOND

ADDISON — Marjorie “Peggy” Russell Raymond, 68, of Addison passed away on Jan. 4, 2016.

Peggy was born in Springfield, Vt., to David and Marjorie Russell on July 1, 1947. For 47 years, she was married to Lloyd “Skip” Bennett Raymond, also of Springfield. They resided in Springfield, Mass., New Britain, Conn., Southington, Conn., Farmington, Conn, and 38 years in Munson/Chardon, Ohio. She spent the last 4 years in Addison.

HARVEY CROCKER SMITH

MIDDLEBURY — Harvey Crocker Smith died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016.

He was born in Boston, Mass., on July 11, 1933, the son of Mary (Bill) and Cecil Hurxthal Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Gail Dawson Smith; his son, Colin Alexander Smith of Middlebury; his daughter, Leslie Crocker Smith and her husband Robert James Nicholls of New Haven; and his sister, Patricia Smith Elvebak of Corte Madera, Calif.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
