Ron Rink

DAYTON, Ohio — Ron E. Rink, a 30-year resident of Addison County, died peacefully at his home in Dayton, Ohio, on June 17, 2012. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, January 28, 1934.

James Washburn

BRISTOL — James Fred Washburn, 67, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at his home in Bristol.

He was born Oct. 22, 1944, in Bethel, the son of Randall and Addie Luce Washburn.

He served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a master plumber for several years. His family says he enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Nana Washburn of Bristol; a daughter, Paulita Washburn and companion Tom Everest of Bristol; two grandsons; two sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and several cousins.

He was predeceased by a sister.

Mary Fonda

BENSON — Mary Elizabeth Fonda, 100, of Benson died Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Rutland Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Leicester on Sept. 25, 1911. She was the daughter of Charles and Caroline (LaDam) Johnson. She received her early education in Leicester schools and graduated from Brandon High School, class of 1928.

She worked most of her life as a seamstress in the garment district in New York City and later Pennsylvania. She retired from Playtex Corp. She moved back to Vermont to be near family in 2009.

Phyllis Pitkin

BRISTOL — A memorial service for Phyllis Glendine Rhodes Pitkin, 92, of Bristol, who died May 30, 2012, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 p.m. up to the hour of the service. Interment will be at Maple Cemetery in Lincoln.

Doris Beers

MIDDLEBURY — Doris Katherine “Kay” Beers, of Middlebury died peacefully at the Vermont Respite House on June 9, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. Her beloved kitties, Gingersnap and Morris, were at her side to the end.

Minnie and Merle Crown

VERGENNES — A graveside service for both Minnie J. (Balch) Crown and Merle W. Crown, who died on Feb. 19, 2012, and April 30, 2010, respectively, will be held in the family lot in Prospect Cemetery, Vergennes, on Friday, June 22, 2012, at 11 a.m. Friends and family will gather at the Congregational Church in Vergennes immediately following the service.

Howard LeBoeuf

VERGENNES — Howard J. LeBoeuf Jr., 92, of Vergennes died Monday, June 18, 2012, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.
He was the fourth generation to run the family construction business. He was a member of the Vergennes Elementary School board, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club and American Legion Post 14, and served on the Vergennes Advisory Board of Vermont Federal Bank.

Andrew Torrey

BRIDPORT — Andrew C. Torrey, 32, died unexpectedly on Monday, June 18, 2012. He was born May 16, 1980, in Middlebury, the son of Andrew Charbonneau and Linda Torrey.

He was a carpenter by trade. His family says he enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hiking and camping and was an excellent grill master.

Frances Williams

BRANDON — Frances (Needham) Williams, 93, died peacefully on Friday, June 15, 2012, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, due to complications from a fall. Her family was at her side.

She was born on Oct. 16, 1918, in Middlebury. She was the daughter of Charles and Laura (Raymond) Needham. She graduated from Middlebury High School. Upon graduation she became a bookkeeper for the town of Middlebury in the town manager’s office, a position she held, from 1938 until 1941.

Rena Booth

FOREST DALE — Rena Marie Booth, 75, of Forest Dale died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Fletcher Allen Health Care Center in Burlington.

She was born in Addison on July 31, 1936. She was the daughter of Oliver and Clara (Pomainville) Charlebois. She grew up in Addison and graduated from Vergennes High School, class of 1955.

She worked for many years at Brandon Training School as an occupational therapist. Following the closure of the school she worked at the Vermont Division of Motor Vehicles in Rutland until retiring in 2000.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
