BEATRICE BRIGGS

NEW HAVEN — Beatrice Simone Gagnon-Tucker-Briggs, 79, of New Haven passed away peacefully in her home on Oct. 4, 2012. Beatrice was born on Nov. 19, 1932. Beatrice was the daughter of Alice and Paul Gagnon.

Beatrice was a very spirited, kind heart and devoted person. She loved to cook for her family and friends, she was an avid reader and crocheter, and she loved to entertain. Beatrice was involved with the city of Vergennes and Bixby Library for many years. She was also a long-time member of the women’s auxiliary of the American Legion Post 14.

CHARLES HURST

NORTH CLARENDON — Charles Richard Hurst, 73, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at Rutland Health & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Arlington, Va., on Feb. 14, 1939. He was the son of Henry and Lena (Sweeney) Hurst. He graduated from George Washington High School in Alexandria, Va.

He began his working career as a movie theater manager. He later worked in retail sales in the Washington, D.C., area. He was forced to retire in 1978 due to his failing eyesight. He was a resident North Clarendon since 1983, having moved there from Alexandria, Va.

FRANCES PRICKITT

MIDDLEBURY — Frances Yeames Prickitt, 91, died peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 9, with family and close friends at her bedside. Daughter of Marion and Arthur O. Yeames, she was predeceased by her husband Henry (June 4) and since then has lived at EastView at Middlebury.

BASIL PIPER

MCBEE, S.C. — Basil W. Piper, 84, of McBee, S.C., widower of Rebecca Marshall Piper, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012.

Born in East Middlebury, Vt., he was a son of the late Chester and Doris Billings Piper.

Surviving are his son, Roy (Bea) LaPell; daughter, Diane (Mike) Wojewodzic; brother, Donald Piper; sisters-in-law Irene Piper, Suzy Piper and Gwen Atkinson; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brothers Clifford, Richard, Ellsworth, Robert and Howard.

WINONA MORIN

VERGENNES — Winona L. “Nonie” Morin, 79, died on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center where she leaves behind her husband of 54 years.

She was born on Sept. 11, 1933, at Mary Fletcher Hospital in Burlington, he daughter of Ilene (St. George) Little and Donald Little. She graduated from high school in 1951. She was married in 1958 to David Francis Morin from Newport. She was a secretary at Simmonds Precision.

RICHARD B. QUENNEVILLE

ADDISON — Richard B. Quenneville, 84, of Addison died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

He was born Jan. 10, 1928, in Bridport, the son of Philias and Rose (Benson) Quenneville.

He worked for Harry Provencher driving truck and for the town of Addison doing road construction.

He is survived by his nephew, Neil, in Burlington and was considered part of the Provenchers’ extended family.

PAULINE THURBER

BRISTOL — Pauline C. Thurber, 98, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at the Myrick Community Care Home in Bristol.

She was born Oct. 17, 1913, to the late Ralph and Mary Curry. Pauline graduated from Watkins Glen High School in Watkins Glen, N.Y.

After high school she attended Elmira College in Elmira, N.Y., graduating with a BS degree in nursing.

She was married to Egbert A. Thurber on Oct. 7, 1939. After 42 years of marriage he passed away on Dec. 17, 1980.

FERRISBURGH — James Patrick Coyle, 66, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at his home in Ferrisburgh.

He was born June 24, 1946, in Vergennes, the son of Patrick Joseph “P.J.” Coyle and Marie (Little) Coyle.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
