Hattie M. Gleason

SHOREHAM — Hattie M. Gleason, 87, died peacefully after a brief illness on Jan. 15, 2012, at her home in Shoreham surrounded by her family. 

She was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Lincoln, the daughter of Alson and Carrie (Cobb) Martell. 

She attended Lincoln schools.

Pauline A. Bolduc

MIDDLEBURY — Pauline A. Bolduc, 89, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at her home, after a brief illness.

She was born Jan. 29, 1922, in Pawlet, the daughter of the late Arthur and Anna (Woods) Ferguson. She was a graduate of Middlebury High School, class of 1940.

Pauline married her husband, Gerald Bolduc, in Bridport on April 30, 1942.

In her earlier years Pauline worked as a seamstress at Van Raalte in Middlebury, later working for Porter Medical Center in the Nursery and Central Supply, which she was very proud of.

Alice Beatrice Delahay Burton

KITTERY POINT, Maine — On Jan. 11, 2012, Alice Beatrice Delahay Burton passed away peacefully at home in Kittery Point, Maine, at the age of 96. She was born Aug. 21, 1915.

She was predeceased by her parents, Alice Porter Delahay and William Delahay, husband Donald L. Burton (1984) and her sister, Jeanne Lee.

Gwendolyn A. Cooper

ORWELL — Gwendolyn A. Cooper, 86, of Orwell and formerly of Fair Haven, died peacefully at her home on Jan. 11, 2012.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1925, the daughter of John T. and Mabel (McCullough) Parrow of Florence, Vt., and Escondido, Calif.

She was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 70 of the Vermont Grand Chapter of Fair Haven. She was active in her church in Fair Haven and in Kissimmee, Fla. She and her husband were travelers all over the USA, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska and Bermuda, visiting friends and grandchildren.

Betty Hemenway Dow

WILLISTON, Fla. — Betty Hemenway Dow, 88, of Williston, Fla., formerly of Bridport, Vt., died on Dec. 25, 2011.

She was born on July 20, 1923, in Middlebury, Vt., to Lee and Hazel Hemenway.

She moved to Hollywood, Fla., in 1954 with her husband, Malcom Dow (now deceased), and her daughter, Lana. She later moved to Fort Lauderdale, and from there in 1983 moved to her final home in Williston.

Levi Goodrich Duclos

NEW HAVEN — Levi Goodrich Duclos, 19, of New Haven died on Jan. 9, 2012, while hiking in the Green Mountains.

He was born on Feb. 13, 1992, in Middlebury, the son of Ann (McNamara) Duclos and the late David R. Duclos.

Elizabeth A. Iberger

VERGENNES — Elizabeth A. Iberger, 67, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

She was born in Albany, N.Y., on April 15, 1944, the daughter of the late Emory U. and Dorothy M. (LaFrance) Bridges.

June Sabourin

MILTON/MIDDLEBURY/PORT ORANGE, Fla. — June McIntyre Sabourin, 86, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 28, 2011, in the Halifax Medical Center of Daytona, Fla.

She was born on July 21, 1925, in Orwell, the daughter of Edwin and Mable (Underwood) McIntyre. She graduated from Brandon High School in 1943.

On March 10, 1945, she married Leo Sabourin in Windsor. Following retirement from farming in Shoreham, they owned Sleepy Oaks Cottages, a general store and roller rink at Lake Dunmore.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
