Richmond Castano Sr.

SHOREHAM/BROCKTON, Mass. — Richmond Albert Castano Sr., 98, of Brockton, Mass., and Shoreham, died April 13, 2010, surrounded by his family at his home in Shoreham.

Funeral services were held at the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, Brockton, Mass., on Sunday, April 18. Interment followed in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater, Mass.

Merle Crown

FAIRFAX — Merle Wesson Crown, 88, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 30, 2010.

At Merle’s request there will be no public visiting hours or memorial services held. Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family in the family lot in the Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes.

Memorial contributions in Merle’s memory may be made to either Fairfax Rescue, PO Box 228, Fairfax, VT 05454, or to Binghamville United Methodist Church, c/o Charles Tinker, Treasurer, 629 Fairfax Road, Cambridge, VT 05444.

Mary Larson

MIDDLEBURY, Vt./ARLINGTON, Va. — Mary Simanek Larson, 89, the wife of Charles J. Larson, died May 1, 2010, in Middlebury.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, South 23rd St., Arlington, Va. A reception will follow at the Army/Navy Country Club, Army/Navy Drive, Arlington.

She was born in Dodge, Neb., on Dec. 28, 1927, the daughter of Edward and Bess (Hausner) Simanek.

She graduated from Dodge High School and from the University of Nebraska with a teaching degree.

Alexander MacDonald Jr.

LINCOLN — Dr. Alexander Sterling MacDonald Jr. died peacefully May 2 at Porter Hospital in Middlebury, surrounded by family at age 94.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the United Church in Lincoln. Memorial donations may be made to the Bearcamp Pond Association, c/o Paul Henle, 45 Bog Road, Unit C4, Concord, NH 03303.

He practiced pediatrics for nearly 60 years in Massachusetts and Vermont, continuing to see patients — and make house calls — until just three years before his death.

Gene Maheu

MIDDLEBURY — Gene L. Maheu, 79, a lifelong resident of Middlebury, died Monday, May 3, 2010, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

There will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2010, with the Rev. Brian O’Donnell, parochial vicar, as celebrant.

Born June 14, 1930, he was the son of the late Guy Doner and Gladys Maheu.

He was a graduate of Middlebury High School and served in the United States Army.

He was a hardware salesman at Middlebury Hardware and later worked in Rochester.

Nancy White

BRANDON — Nancy Elizabeth Boyd White, 55, died Friday, April 30, 2010, at her home in Brandon.

The funeral service was held Tuesday, May 4, at the Brandon Congregational Church. The graveside committal service and burial followed in the family lot at Pine Hill Cemetery.

She was born in Exeter, N.H., on March 23, 1955. She was the daughter of Armond and Margaret (Simon) Boyd.

Elizabeth Wilder

MIDDLEBURY — A burial service for Elizabeth Paquette Wilder of Middlebury, who died Jan. 23, 2010, at the age of 71, will be held at Case Street Cemetery in Middlebury on Saturday, May 15, at 1 p.m.

Roland Brouillard

BRISTOL — Roland J. Brouillard, 77, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 3, at St. Ambrose Church in Bristol. Interment followed in Mount St. Joseph Cemetery in Bristol.

Contributions may be made to the Gold Star Committee at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, 115 Porter Drive, Middlebury, VT 05753.

Wilma Butler

ST. GEORGE — Wilma J. (Reed) Butler, 62, of St. George died April 25, 2010, at her home in St. George with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services were private and in her home.

She was born May 23, 1947, in St. Albans, the daughter of the late Frederick and Anna (Miller) Reed.

Her relatives say she loved to cook, do jigsaw puzzles, garden, crochet, but most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a homemaker and loved watching the Food Network channel on TV.

Marion Larocque

EAST MIDDLEBURY — Marion Virginia Larocque, 88, died early Friday morning, April 30, 2010, at her home in East Middlebury.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 7, at 11 a.m. in St. Genevieve Cemetery in Shoreham. The Rev. Brian O’Donnell will officiate.

Memorial contributions maybe made to Project Independence at 112 Exchange St., Middlebury, VT 05753.

She was born June 6, 1921, in Starksboro, the daughter of the late Emmons and Viola Mae (Taft) Morrill.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
