Lawrence True Grace Sr.

BRISTOL — Lawrence True Grace Sr., 78, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

He was born Aug. 23, 1932, in Burlington, the son of Stuart and Alvina Brown Grace.

His family says he was a hardworking and devoted family man. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with 2nd Engineer Combat Battalion of the 2nd Infantry Division.

Robert Richard Hall Sr.

RUTLAND — Robert Richard Hall Sr., 75, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at his home in Rutland.

He was born in Brandon on Jan. 13, 1936. He was the son of Frances Hall. He received his early education in local Brandon schools.

On April 6, 1968, he married Lois Bradley at the Congregational Church in Brandon. They made their home in Rutland, where he resided for the rest of his life.

He was employed at Midway Diner for the last 43 years.

Terrence Leo Jennings

VERGENNES — Terrence Leo Jennings, 76, of Vergennes, peacefully passed away June 7, surrounded by members of his loving family.

He was born in Burlington on Dec. 21, 1934, to Carl M. and Helene (Gallagher) Jennings, and grew up largely in Berlin. He attended St. Michael’s School in Montpelier, and subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served on minesweepers in the Mediterranean. He continued his education in electrical engineering at Wentworth Institute in Boston.

Polly (Evelyn) Sherwin

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — Polly (Evelyn) Sherwin, 79, Ormond Beach, Fla., died peacefully at her home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. Polly was born Jan. 22, 1932, in East Monkton, Vt., and married her beloved husband, Paul Farr Sherwin, on Oct. 16, 1964.

Carrie L. Bessette

HANCOCK — Carrie L. Bessette, 82, of Hancock died Friday evening, June 3, 2011, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.

She was born Dec. 21, 1928, in Pittsford, the daughter of Howard and Theresa (McCullough) O’Neil. She was raised and schooled in Pittsford, and moved to the Hancock area in the 1960s.

Lucienne R. Brown

MIDDLEBURY — A graveside committal service for Lucienne R. Brown, 90, a longtime resident of Middlebury who died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at Porter Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. on June 14, 2011, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Middlebury, with the Rev. William R. Beaudin, pastor of St. Mary’s Church, officiating.

Marian K. Cano

MIDDLEBURY — Marian K. Cano, 91, formerly of Montpelier and Arizona, died Saturday afternoon, June 4, 2011, at the Lodge at Otter Creek.

She was born Nov. 24, 1919, in Canton, Mo., one of eight children to the late Herbert and OraLee (Henton) Kreitz.

She had been a resident of Montpelier for 30 years before moving to Arizona and returning to Vermont to reside at the Lodge at Otter Creek.

Gertrude E. Gerry

WEYBRIDGE — Graveside services for Gertrude E. Gerry, who died on April 7, 2011, will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. in Weybridge Hill Cemetery, across from the Weybridge Elementary School. All are welcome.

Family and friends are invited to the home of Harvey and Donna Smith after the service at 2516 Lime Kiln Road in New Haven.

Norma Jenny Beck Ulmer Hawkins

FERRISBURGH — Norma Jenny Beck Ulmer Hawkins, 75, of Ferrisburgh died peacefully on June 4, 2011.

Born in Newburgh, N.Y., on Sept. 1, 1935, she was the daughter of Norman Beck and Lois Leonard.

In April 1955 she married the love of her life, Richard James Hawkins Sr., who preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 2006.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
