SHIRLEY AUSTIN

BRANDON — Shirley Genevieve Austin, 73, a former resident of Rutland, died Sunday, May 3, 2015, at the home of her daughter in Brandon.

She was born in Weybridge on June 9, 1941. She was the daughter of Burt and Agnes (Hutchins) Harrington. She grew up in Ripton where she received her early education. She worked for many years as a chambermaid in the Killington and Pico area. Her family says she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, visiting with friends and spending time with her grandchildren.

LAURANCE HESS

VERGENNES — Laurance “Larry” Young Hess, died Dec. 25, 2014, at the age of 71 at Rutland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center due to complications from diabetes.

He was born in Mineola, N.Y., on Jan. 10, 1943. He lived in Manhasset, N.Y., until the age of 13 when his family moved to Middlebury. His parents bought Patnode’s Red & White Market at the corner of Elm and Exchange streets, now known as Greg’s Meat Market.

MIDDLEBURY — A celebration of life service for Elizabeth Hunt, who died in October, will be held on Saturday, May 30, at 1 p.m. at the Congregational Church of Middlebury.

FRANCES HUTCHINS

FREEMONT, N.H. — A memorial service for Frances “TeeDee” Wakefield Hutchins, who died Dec. 17, 2014, in Freemont, N.H., at age 90, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, at Church on the Cape, Langsford Road, Cape Porpoise, Maine. A gathering will follow in the church hall.

She was a former longtime resident of Kennebunkport, Maine, and in the early 1990s owned and operated The Annex Bed and Breakfast in East Middlebury, Vt., for around a decade.

GERALD LAFRAMBOISE

MIDDLEBURY — Gerald L. “Rigger” Laframboise, 62, of Middlebury, son of the late Lucien and Mary Cyr Laframboise, died on May 1, 2015.

NEW HAVEN — A Celebration of Life for Frederick “Fred” E. Lowd Sr., who died Feb. 19, 2015, will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the New Haven Congregational Church, with a reception to follow.

RITA MYRICK

BRIDPORT — Rita Elizabeth Myrick, 86, of Bridport passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Middlebury on April 6, 1929, the daughter of Albert E. Counter and Margaret (Lacey) Counter.  On May 30, 1950, she married Robert L. Myrick Sr. of Bridport where they spent their lives on the family farm. She was a devoted wife and mother, having raised nine children.

FORREST ROSE

ST. ALBANS — Forrest S. Rose, 92, formerly of Vergennes and Monkton, passed away Jan. 10, 2015.

There will be a graveside service at Monkton Boro Cemetery in Monkton on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at 1 p.m. A reception will follow at 2 p.m. at the Congregational Church, 30 South Water St., in Vergennes. ◊

RALPH EDWARD MUZZY

FERRISBURGH — Ralph Edward Muzzy passed away peacefully in the early evening of Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at his home in Ferrisburgh.

Ralph was born on April 9, 1942, the youngest son of George F. and Flora (Perkins) Muzzy. He was raised in Ferrisburgh and graduated from Edmunds High School in Burlington in 1960. After graduation he enrolled in General Electric’s apprenticeship program and was trained as an industrial engineer.

ELIZABETH M. BUTLER

HELENA, Mont. — Elizabeth Mae Willey Butler, 84, left this life on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, in Helena, Mont.

She was born on Aug. 13, 1929, in Schenectady, N.Y., the daughter of Raymond Clyde Willey and Sarah Jane (Hamilton) Willey. She attended elementary school and high school in Elmira, N.Y., and completed her registered nurse’s training at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. She worked at Porter Community Hospital in Middlebury, Vt., for 32 years, primarily as a supervisory for emergency and operating rooms.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
