JANE LUCIA

WOODSTOCK — Jane A. Lucia, 91, passed away with family and friends by her side on March 21, 2015, at the Mertens House in Woodstock, Vt.

Born Nov. 7, 1923, in Orwell, Jane was the daughter of the late Edwin and Mabel (Underwood) McIntyre. She was a graduate of Brandon High School where she enjoyed playing basketball.

Jane married Robert Lucia on July 2, 1941. She was of Methodist faith and enjoyed creating beautiful flower gardens, spending time with her family, and making memories at their camp on Lake Champlain.

MARGUERITE A. QUINN

THE VILLAGES, Florida — Marguerite A. Quinn, 73, of Middlebury, Vermont, went to meet the Lord on Friday, March 20, 2015, at her winter home in The Villages, Florida. She was with her beloved husband John and her daughter Audrey, when she passed very peacefully as she slept. “Maggie”, as she was fondly known by friends, was the daughter of the late Beatrice and Albert Abair of Waltham.

ANN S. WHITNEY

VERGENNES — Ann S. Whitney, 65, passed away Monday, March 23, 2015, at her home in Vergennes.

She was born April 20, 1949, the daughter of Harry and Josephine (Jerome) Newville.

She enjoyed camping and lawn sales. She drove school bus for many years.

Ann is survived by four children, Brian Whitney and his daughter Skye, Angela Whitney and partner Jim Peterson, Iris Whitney, and Melody Miller and husband Dale; several grandchildren; a sister, Cheryl Pouliot; a brother, Barry Newville; and several nieces and nephews.

GLADYS GOODSPEED

MIDDLEBURY — Gladys Goodspeed, 92, died Tuesday afternoon, March 17, 2015, at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

Gladys was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Barre, the daughter of the late John and Bertha (Sabin) Goodspeed.

Gladys moved to Middlebury in 1960. She was of the Methodist faith. Gladys enjoyed cats and was a supporter of the Addison County Humane Society, now Homeward Bound. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed their outings.

NORMAN AUDET

BRIDPORT — Norman B. Audet of Bridport, died Friday morning, March 20, 2015, after a brief illness.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Middlebury.

There will be visiting hours.

A complete obituary will follow in a later edition of the paper.

MARY OLSON

MIDDLEBURY — Mary Elise Washburne Olson died on March 6, 2015, at East View in Middlebury, Vermont. She was 93.

Elise was born in New Rochelle, NY, on October 11, 1921, the daughter of Chester Washburne and Marcelle (Gellee) Washburne, and the sister of George Washburne.

CARL “BILL” BERGER

MANCHESTER, N.J. — Carl William Berger (known as Bill), 84, of Leisure Knoll, Manchester, N.J., died peacefully at home on Monday, March 9, 2015.

Born in Philadelphia, Bill lived in Bala Cynwyd and Valley Forge, Pa., Baltimore, Md., and Upper Montclair, N.J., before moving to Manchester, N.J., in 1996. He became an Eagle Scout at the age of 15 and later became an Explorer Scout Ranger and served on the staff at Camp Delmont, BSA, for four summers.

MIDDLEBURY — Linda Willard Burdett, 93, of Middlebury, died on Friday, March 12, 2015, with her loving family at her side. She was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on Nov. 22, 1921, the daughter of Grace Van Evera Willard and George Gale Willard. She lived in Des Moines, Iowa; Pasadena, Calif.; Detroit, Mich.; and Evanston, Ill., as well as New York City, New York.

JOY CLARK

MIDDLEBURY — Joy Marie Clark, age 82, passed peacefully from this life and into our Father’s presence on Monday, March 16, 2015, with loved ones at her side at her home in Middlebury.

Ms. Clark was born in Isle La Motte on Feb. 2, 1933. She was the daughter of Alcide and Rena (Jarvis) Bonneville. She grew up on Isle La Motte where she received her early education and graduated from Mount St. Mary’s High School in Burlington, class of 1951.

ZULKA CORD

MIDDLEBURY — Zulka Cord, 99, of Middlebury died peacefully on March 12, 2015.

The daughter of an Austro-Hungarian diplomat born in Smyrna, Turkey, in 1915, she grew up at diplomatic posts in Stockholm and Rome and was a Czech citizen. Married before World War II, she escaped with her husband and children in 1948. A naturalized American, she lived in Washington, D.C., for 60 years before moving to Vermont in 2013.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
