CHARLES CHAPMAN

MIDDLEBURY — Charles B. Chapman, beloved husband of Evelyn D. Chapman, passed away in Middlebury, Vt., on April 9, 2015.

Born May 9, 1925, in Norwich, Conn., he was the son of the late Percival and Mildred (Packer) Chapman.

He was a United States Navy veteran.

ELIZABETH FILLIOE

FOREST DALE — Elizabeth Ann Fillioe, 84, of Forest Dale died Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Rutland Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Waterbury on Feb. 26, 1931. She was the daughter of Frank and Caroline (Carpenter) Lamb. She grew up in Waterbury where she received her education in local schools.

On Sept. 4, 1955, she married James Henry Fillioe in Brandon. She had lived in Forest Dale since 1967, having moved there with her family from Germany, following her husband’s retirement from the military. He predeceased her on March 24, 2007.

NATHAN ALEXANDER

MIDDLEBURY — Nathan Joseph Alexander from Denver, Colorado, died on April 2, 2015, at age 20 in his dormitory room at Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vermont, where he was a sophomore. The cause of death was suicide.

STEPHEN ANIOLOWSKI

FERRISBURGH — Stephen Norman Aniolowski of Ferrisburgh, born Sept. 2, 1953, to Celestin and Violet (Larsarenzo) Aniolowski, died peacefully on March 24, 2015, in Athol, Mass., while visiting his son Scott.

He was born and brought up in Quincy, Mass., was a graduate of Quincy High School, and served his country in the Army National Guard. He was married to Karen Crane, with whom he had three children: Scott, Justin and Tiffany. In time, he relocated to Schroon Lake, N.Y., where he resided for 10 years before moving to Vermont in 1999.

MIDDLEBURY — Abbott Thayer Fenn, environmentalist and educator, died peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2015. He was 93.

LEO "CHARLIE" STEADY

NEW HAVEN — Leo Charles “Charlie” Steady Sr., 86, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 5, 2015. Charlie was born at home in Ferrisburgh, Vt., on Jan. 19, 1929.

LEONARD F. SWIFT

SHELBURNE — Leonard “Gus” Fordyce Swift, educator, historian, mentor, eternal learner, and kind, generous, wittyman, died Feb. 17, 2015, at the University of Vermont Medical Center after a brief illness. He was one month short of his 99th birthday. He had been a resident of Wake Robin in Shelburne, Vermont, since 2005.

MARJORIE BENEDICT

BRISTOL — Marjorie Alice Benedict, 88, of Bristol died peacefully Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury, surrounded by their caring staff.

She was born in Avon, Conn., in 1926 to Rex Barrows and Vera (Manning) Barrows.

SANDRA FORAND

VERGENNES — Sandra Marlene Forand, beloved sister, aunt and friend, left this earth peacefully early Good Friday morning surrounded by love. She was born Oct. 14, 1948, to Leonard and Ramona (Sullivan) Forand. The third of five children, she graduated from Vergennes Union High School in 1966 and dedicated the next 43 years to her career at Goodrich.

GARY JACKSON

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — Gary Andrew Jackson, 54, of Fernandina Beach died March 20, 2015, in Fernandina. He was born in February 1961, the son of Richard and Tanya Mayville Jackson, both of whom predeceased him.

His family says he was an accomplished woodworker, fashioning jewelry boxes and tiny wooden animal necklaces and brooches. They say he was also adept at chainsaw sculpting.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
