WOODSTOCK — Visiting No. 5 seed Otter Valley Union High School gave undefeated Woodstock a battle in Friday’s Division III semifinal football game, but the Wasps scored a touchdown in the first half’s waning moments and then early in the second to take a 21-0 lead on the way to a 35-0 win.

MIDDLEBURY — The No. 3 Mount Abraham Union High School field hockey trimmed No. 7 Harwood on Wednesday, 1-0, in a Division II semifinal played at Middlebury College.
The Eagles dominated the action on the artificial turf surface and outshot Harwood, 18-0. Wednesday’s loss left the Highlanders at 11-6 and ended their bid for a fourth straight D-II championship.
VERGENNES — The Vergennes Union High School board at their meeting on Monday set a date for a school improvement bond and talked about school taxes with Panton residents (see stories on Page 1A).
In other business at the meeting:
• Co-principals Ed Webbley and Stephanie Taylor fielded a question about the school’s efforts to promote safety given the recent murder of a Massachusetts teacher by a student and the recent suicide of a Mount Abraham student.
MIDDLEBURY — It wasn’t too long ago that the Middlebury Area Land Trust (MALT) had temporarily strayed into a wilderness of financial challenges and a fractured vision.
But the organization has now found a solid trail back to what had been its primary focus: Maintaining and strengthening its crown jewel, the Trail Around Middlebury, which is known locally as the TAM.
MIDDLEBURY — The Vermont Federal Credit Union is banking on its new location on Court Square to be a big winner with customers, some of whom turned out on Monday morning to witness the official unveiling of the VFCU’s vastly improved Middlebury branch office.
VERGENNES — The Vergennes Union High School board agreed on Monday to add this past spring’s roofing loan into a winter bond vote and set balloting for Dec. 10, not Dec. 3 as had previously been discussed.
