I started my drive toward Otter Creek two hours before sunset. My waders and fly-rod were in the back of the car along with a couple tins of new flies freshly tied over the winter and still undamaged by rocks, branches, or the mouths of fish.
Two votes facing Vergennes residents next Tuesday — a $1.45 million bond to fund a new police station, and a $600,000 loan to replace the high school roof — deserve community support.
Despite a legislative session that seemed geared to raise several broad-based taxes, news this week suggests that Gov. Peter Shumlin will get what he wanted: the appearance of holding the line on taxes in the face of a lot of red-ink at the start of the session. Police said their investigation suggests the truck flipped onto its side, slid along the ditch then re-entered the roadway.
