MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police responded to a report of a suspicious package that had been delivered to the Middlebury College mailroom on Oct. 4. Police determined the package contained marijuana. The recipient denied any knowledge of why the package had been sent, according to police, who continue to investigate the matter.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
• Investigated a report of a distraught woman at a North Pleasant Street residence on Sept. 30.
VERGENNES — Vergennes police on Oct. 2 cited a city woman for resisting arrest, an action taken after they learned there was an outstanding warrant for her arrest when she showed up at the police department because she was worried about her cat’s health.
ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police are investigating several car break-ins at trailheads in Lincoln and Ripton that were reported Sunday evening.
Police were alerted to the first two break-ins between 5 and 5:30 p.m. at the Robert Frost Hiking Trail in Ripton.
Beyond the financial gains for two big businesses, what’s at stake with Vermont Gas’s proposed Phase II pipeline project is the prospect of an extended environmental and legal battle that will likely be seen across the nation as a quirky rant by anti-business/pro-environmental forces in anti-business Vermont.
In today's other editorial, the win-win scenario refers to the state and Vermont Gas getting a pipeline to Rutland in the fastest manner and with the least amount of political and legal consequence.
Environmentalists opposed to the pipeline might rightly ask: But what about the environment?

U.S. House Republicans along with their stupid and selfish actions have shut down the government.
It’s perfectly obvious that the idiot Republicans in the U.S. House are hell bent to destroy our economy, our way of life, our society, our health care.
