Our Poet: Gary Margolis, Ph.D., is emeritus director of mental health services and associate professor of English at Middlebury College. He was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for his book “Fire in the Orchard.” His life of other honors and accomplishments is too long to give here. Suffice it to say that we are greatly honored to have this distinguished poet with us.

I no longer remember who gave us the advice, but when our family first moved to Vermont some wise soul told my husband and me: “The winters are long and cold. The best way to survive them is to find an outdoor activity that you enjoy.”
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The finest season in the history of the Middlebury College women’s soccer program came to an end on Friday afternoon, when the Panthers lost to top-ranked Trinity University, 2-1, in an NCAA Division III semifinal played in Trinity’s home town of San Antonio.
While several Middlebury College teams pursue NCAA Division III titles this weekend — women’s soccer at home in a sectional and the cross-country runners out in Indiana — a Panther club team will also be seeking a national championship, namely the perennially successful Middlebury rugby squad.
