BRANDON — Going into Thursday’s home Division II quarterfinal, Otter Valley Union High School junior Allison Lowell had scored in every one of the OV field hockey team’s games this fall except one.

Senior midfielder Maia Edmunds had assisted many of Lowell’s goals. Meanwhile, junior goalie Myliah McDonough had made more than 100 saves.

Given all that, when the No. 2 Otters and No. 7 Harwood entered overtime on Friday in a scoreless tie, maybe the outcome was inevitable.

Public invited to discuss ANwSU unification

By Andy Kirkaldy

VERGENNES — The Addison Northwest Supervisory Union Act 46 Study Committee is inviting residents of the five union towns to an Oct. 28 forum to learn more and ask questions about potential ANwSU unification under Vermont’s new education law, Act 46.

Act 46 created more incentives than were available when ANwSU previously considered unification, and also for the first time created penalties for those that do not do so in a timely manner.

The forum on this coming Wednesday will run from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Vergennes Union High School library.

GMP plans one of its biggest projects for northern Panton

PANTON — Green Mountain Power is proposing to install and operate an $11 million, 4.99-megawatt solar farm in Panton. The project would be more than twice the size of the largest existing Addison County arrays and is also as large as any such venture GMP is proposing in Vermont.

The site proposed is 40 acres of a 327-acre parcel that is part of Panton’s largest dairy operation, the Vorsteveld Farm. The site lies in the town’s north end, between Panton Road and the Ferrisburgh town line, east of Jersey Street and west of Slang Creek.

FERRISBURGH — An opponent of Basin Harbor Club’s 150-kilowatt solar array last week won a Vermont Supreme Court decision against the Public Service Board.

However, the decision addressed procedure, not the issues at the heart of the case, such as the array’s impact on the lakefront neighborhood.
