By Andy Kirkaldy

ADDISON — Interim regulations governing the siting and screening of solar arrays in Addison will take effect during the first full week of September.

The Addison selectboard adopted the regulations on July 5, with a 60-day lag before they became law.

Planning commission chairman Frank Galgano said last week the selectboard wanted to get something in place to guide potential applicants while planners are working on a new Addison Town Plan.

ADDISON — Ethan Gevry is scratching a big tan and pink hog behind the ears — one of the more than 800 or so grunting, squealing, snoozing, eating porkers being raised in the barn Gevry’s outfitted for his hog operation in Addison.

“I like pigs, and I love farming,” says Gevry.

He certainly does. At age 20, Gevry is Vermont’s largest hog producer.

According to Gevry, he raises close to 2,500 hogs a year, almost all of which he sells to Black River Meats in North Springfield.

DAR State Park to celebrate Vermont's mysterious lake monster

ADDISON — Imagine you’re on a boat. Fog swirls gently above the grey morning waters of Lake Champlain, and you’re drifting at ease on the glassy surface.

Maybe it’s a sturgeon. The prehistoric species has had plenty of time to grow to a gargantuan size in the lake, which itself has been around for more than 10,000 years.

BRIDPORT — Not many organizations can claim to be the oldest of their kind in the United States. Then again, the 200-year-old Addison Bridport Detective Society is not like most organizations.

Begun on Dec. 16, 1816, when roughly two dozen men assembled in the barn of Alan Smith in Addison for its inaugural meeting, the Detective Society has met continuously every year since, making it the oldest association of private investigators in the country that still actively meets, according to Ed Mitcham, the society’s outgoing secretary.
