Middlebury Police Log: Police aid unresponsive woman

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police forced their way into a Twin Circles home on Friday, April 29, in order to respond to a medical emergency. Police found an unresponsive woman still breathing in the residence. Middlebury Regional EMS took the woman to Porter Hospital for treatment.

Vergennes Police Log: Waltham man cited for assault in parking lot

VERGENNES — Vergennes police on April 25 cited a Waltham man for simple assault that they said occurred in the New Haven Road parking lot of the Eagles Club.

Police cited Michael T. Smith, 36, of Waltham for allegedly striking another man several times outside the clubhouse, causing minor injuries. Police the next day also issued an abuse prevention order to Smith.

Vermont State Police Log: Man cited for domestic assault in front of child

ADDISON COUNTY — On May 21 at around 9 p.m. Vermont State Police received a call from a person reporting a possible assault that took place earlier in the evening in Hancock.

After interviewing people close to the incident and examining the physical evidence, Sgt. Rich Slusser determined that it was probable that an assault did in fact occur.

He arrested 53-year-old Timothy Needham of Hancock without incident and cited him for domestic assault committed in the presence of a child.

Bristol Police Log: Police attend mental health crisis training

BRISTOL — During March, Bristol police officers took part in training seven times, according to a recently released log for that month. That included training in responding to persons in mental health crisis at the Vermont State Police barracks and medical training with the Bristol Rescue Squad.

Officer Josh Otey attended the National Interdiction Conference training seminar in Reno, Nev., and received the Master Interdictor Certification from the National Criminal Enforcement Association.

Middlebury Police Log: Police investigate possible hit, run

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police responded to a report of a vehicle striking a woman on Halladay Road on April 21. Police arriving to the scene interviewed someone they described as “an extremely intoxicated woman” who said she wasn’t sure if she had been struck, or merely brushed, by the vehicle.

Police said the woman, who could provide no description of the vehicle, bore no signs of physical injuries. Middlebury Regional EMS officials took the woman to Porter Hospital for evaluation, according to police.

Vergennes Police Log: City police handle car crashes and more

VERGENNES — In a mostly routine week between April 18 and 24, among other incidents Vergennes police calmed a couple of arguments, handled car accidents, and issued civil tickets for possession of small amounts of marijuana.

In those seven days, Vergennes police:

•  On April 18 went to a Second Street home because of a report of a fight and discovered a woman and two men arguing loudly; police calmed them down, and one of the men left.

Vergennes Police Log: Assaults keep city police busy

VERGENNES — Vergennes police on April 15 dealt with an assault and a separate dispute at which a blow was allegedly struck.

In one incident, they cited Christopher Zeno, 49, of Vergennes for repeatedly punching another man. Police said Zeno argued with the other man because he had allegedly stolen something from Zeno. The other man during the argument pushed Zeno, and Zeno then allegedly began punching, police said. Police cited Zeno for simple assault and released him with conditions.

Middlebury Police Log: Culprits disrepectful of veterans

MIDDLEBURY — Two separate incidents that Middlebury police are investigating show disrespect to veterans.

First, on April 11, police received a report that some American flags had been torn off of veterans’ graves at the West Cemetery near the intersection of South Main Street and Service Road — just south of Middlebury College campus.

Vermont State Police Log: Police look into suspicious activity

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police on Tuesday morning, April 19, were seeking the public’s help in finding the driver of red Jeep who allegedly tried to persuade two young girls to get in his vehicle near the intersection of Vincent Drive and Lower Notch Road in Bristol on Sunday, April 17. But by the end of the day troopers had closed the case.

Middlebury Police Log: High-speed chase ends in crash

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police on Thursday, April 7, participated in a high-speed chase of a vehicle driven by a man whose license was under suspension.

Middlebury police said they spotted the 1998 Volvo S70 on Buttolph Drive at around 11:40 p.m. but were unsuccessful in getting the man — identified as Michael J. LaFountain, 37, of Weybridge — to pull over.

Vermont State Police picked up the chase on Route 23 as LaFountain traveled into Weybridge.
