Middlebury Police Log: Leicester woman recieves several citations

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Ingrid Ecklein, 40, of Leicester for driving under the influence (second offense), leaving the scene of an accident, and careless/negligent operation of a motor vehicle, following an incident on Buttolph Drive on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 7:40 p.m. Police allege that Ecklein — operating a vehicle with a flat tire and only its emergency flasher lights on — sideswiped another vehicle and hit a few signs on Buttolph Drive.

Police said they got Ecklein to stop her vehicle in the Shaw’s Supermarket lot.

Vergennes Police Log: Detective helps get man out of harm’s way

VERGENNES — Vergennes police detective Jason Ouellette persuaded a potentially suicidal man to leave his Ferrisburgh home and surrender to Vermont State Police on Oct. 26, according to Vergennes Police Chief George Merkel.

Ouellette and another member of the Vergennes department went on that Friday to a South Middlebrook Road home at about 12:30 p.m. to help several VSP troopers with a man who was inside the home threatening to either hang or shoot himself. Merkel said Ouellette knew the individual and was able to convince him to leave the home peacefully.

VSP Log: Crash lands unlicensed driver with charges

 

ADDISON COUNTY — A transient man serving a lifetime driving ban for alcohol-related offenses crashed his car into a tree off Sand Road in Ferrisburgh on Oct. 27, injuring himself in the process.

Vermont State Police cited Kenneth A. Jennings Jr., 49, for driving under the influence and driving with a criminally suspended license. Police said he was driving a 1990 Chevrolet Silverado southbound on Sand Road when he lost control of the vehicle and went off the west side of the road, colliding  with a moderate-size tree.

Vermont State Police Log: Troopers nab woman with stolen license plate

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police stopped a motor vehicle driven by Jean Gaboriau, 45, of Rutland on Oct. 17 at around 2:48 p.m. on Route 7 at Campground Road in New Haven. Troopers said they found that Gaboriau was in possession of a stolen license plate.

Troopers further identified Gaboriau as having used the stolen license plate to drive away from multiple gas stations in Addison County without paying for the gas; they said this totaled in excess of $130.

Bristol Police Log: Officers investigate phone scam

BRISTOL — Bristol police investigated a theft by deception and fraud case, which occurred on Oct. 19 in the police district.

Police reported that a male subject claiming to be a relative of the victim called the victim on the telephone and requested that a large sum of money be sent to Mexico. The story was that the victim’s relative had been in an automobile accident, and the money would be used to keep the relative out of jail.

Middlebury Police Log: Local man cited for grand larceny

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Brandon T. Raymond, 26, of Middlebury for burglary, grand larceny (over $900) and  violation of the conditions of his release on Oct. 21. Police allege that Raymond broke into a Seminary Street apartment and stole an iPad and electronic gaming equipment.

Police allege that Raymond entered the apartment during their investigation and admitted to the crime.

Vergennes Police Log: Driver and passenger switch places after police pull over truck

VERGENNES — Vergennes police on Oct. 13 cited a pair of Chittenden County residents following a 1:45 a.m. traffic stop in which police allege a passenger and a driver switched seats before police approached the vehicle. Police said they stopped the vehicle, a pick-up truck, after the department’s license-plate reader alerted them of a possible problem with its registration.

Middlebury Police Log: Authorities investigate phone scams

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police assisted two local men who had been targeted in two separate scam attempts on Oct. 14. One of the men was told to deposit money into an account as part of a proposed Craigslist transaction. The other man was told to wire money to Nigeria to allegedly help an orphanage. Police said the men were fortunate to have emerged financially unscathed in both matters.

•  Investigated a fraud complaint in the Drew Lane area on Oct. 8.

Vermont State Police Log: 'Haunted house' signs stolen

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police on Friday, Oct. 12, received a complaint from Eric Huestis, 35, of Ferrisburgh, that someone had stolen all of the haunted house signs for their haunted house.

The thefts of the signs from Route 7 in Ferrisburgh apparently had taken place sometime between 9 p.m. the previous night and 10:30 a.m. that morning.
