FERRISBURGH — On Father’s Day, a nine-months pregnant Heather Ayer realized the time had come.

She, her boyfriend, Anthony Denning, and his mother, Lisa Denning, headed from her Benson home toward Fletcher Allen Healthcare in Burlington, with Lisa Denning behind the wheel.

The car did not make it in time.

Instead, late on June 17 Ayer’s daughter, Kaimara, was born on the side of Route 7 at 6 pounds, 3 ounces and perfectly healthy, according to Vergennes Area Rescue Squad volunteers.

FERRISBURGH — Ferrisburgh selectmen on Tuesday agreed to let supervised Ferrisburgh Central School students tap maple trees on the town-owned Union Meeting Hall property on Route 7 — with one provision.

The proposal came from FCS parent Nick Patch, who has a portable maple sugar house. Patch sought the board’s permission to tap the maples, which are about 400 yards from the school across the state highway.

FERRISBURGH — The Ferrisburgh selectboard at its Tuesday meeting agreed to use equipment borrowed from Shelburne to measure the speed and amount of traffic coming through the North Ferrisburgh village along Old Hollow Road.

The board took that action in response to a petition filed by Old Hollow Road resident Nick Patch and signed by about 90 residents of the area; he said “the vast majority” of the village population wanted something done.

HINESBURG/FERRISBURGH — There’s a new brand of organic milk hitting the shelves in stores around Vermont from a Ferrisburgh farm that after years producing high-quality milk is now also bottling it and sending it to retailers.

Kimball Brook Farm has been milking 200 Jersey and Holstein cows and selling to the national market for 15 years. But when Cheryl and J.D. DeVos flipped the switch at their small Hinesburg bottling plant on May 17, they were marking a major transition to processor and distributor of their own milk.
