LINCOLN — On a recent rainy day in Lincoln, the landscape around Garland’s Bridge on Lincoln Gap Road was awash with muted earth tones — gray sky, brown banks laden with dark vegetation, black water.

But following a well-trodden footpath down the riverbank to a favorite local swimming hole beneath the bridge revealed a more striking and brightly hued scene.

Lincoln's Sunray Peace Village hosts elders’ gathering July 26

LINCOLN — A gathering of elders will take place at the Sunray Peace Village in Lincoln throughout the weekend of July 26. The annual event, now in its 29th year, will bring indigenous elders from around the world to the Green Mountains for a weekend of healing, teaching and ceremony.

Burnham Hall contra dance to benefit Lincoln Historical Society

LINCOLN — Susan Kevra, the daughter of late Lincoln resident Mary Anne Kevra, had come to the Green Mountains for the summer to tie up lose ends and finalize the sale of her mother’s South Lincoln home.

A contra dance caller who lives in Nashville with her Grammy-nominated guitarist husband Russ Barenberg, Kevra welcomed the opportunity for the homecoming.

Lincoln Library looks back at the big flood of 1998

LINCOLN — Fifteen years ago this month, on a stormy Saturday, the waters of the New Haven River rose dramatically and washed over the center of Lincoln village, including Burnham Hall. The lower levels, which housed the town library, were completely flooded.

Vermont Folklife Center pilots exciting new summer film program for teens

LINCOLN — Two groups of Vermont students will hit the road this summer with documentary film equipment in hand, as participants in “Conversations from the Open Road,” a creative new summer program founded by Vermont educator Mary Simons, in partnership with the Vermont Folklife Center.

Each group will travel to a region of the United States to explore what Simons calls the “stories behind the issue” most pertinent to that region. The program is designed for students age 16 to 19.

Forlenza and Finger elected to Lincoln's first 5 member selectboard

LINCOLN — Lincoln’s selectboard has officially expanded from three members to five. Bill Finger and Paul Forlenza were elected to the board in a special election last Tuesday, May 14, joining incumbents Barb Rainville, Elwin Isham and Oakley Smith.

Forlenza garnered 169 votes and Finger received 189. The two bested opponents Joe Martell and Jim Adams, who received 30 and 22 votes, respectively.

Saturday road race to raise funds for Lincoln school

LINCOLN — The third annual Lincoln Mountain Magic 5K/10K Run-Walk happens Saturday, May 11, at 9 a.m., starting at the Lincoln Community School. The courses run through gentle hills in Lincoln providing variety for all athletic levels, and this year cash prizes will be awarded to male/female winners of both races and male/female winners age 12 and under in the 5K. The race is sponsored by the Friends of Lincoln Community School with proceeds supporting educational and enrichment activities at the school.
