New solar farm slated for New Haven parcel

NEW HAVEN — An array of around 500 solar panels is slated to be erected in New Haven off Town Road this summer. It’s a project whose funding has an interesting twist.

The solar photovoltaic project, which recently received its Certificate of Public Good (CPG) from the Vermont Public Service Board, was facilitated by the Acorn Renewable Energy Co-op in collaboration with Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op, Misty Knoll Farm of New Haven, and Encore Redevelopment of Burlington.

NEW HAVEN — Many businesses release quarterly newsletters to keep their customers up to date on what’s going on in their industry, but Phoenix Feeds and Nutrition Inc. is upping the ante. The New Haven company, which serves those on the front lines of agriculture, last week introduced a new dairy magazine called Perspectives: Dairy farming in the Northeast.

New Haven Conservation Commission receives AVCC grant

MONTPELIER — Trail work, a publication highlighting local hikes, the support for a town-wide natural resource inventory and a natural resources training program for a local community all are expected to go forward thanks to recent grants awarded to local groups by the Association of Vermont Conservation Commissions.

Grants were awarded to conservation commissions in New Haven, Bradford, Dummerston and Milton. Each group will receive $600 from the AVCC Tiny Grant program.

New Haven fills town positions

NEW HAVEN — The New Haven selectboard at its April 1 meeting appointed a slew of residents to town positions.

The selectboard unanimously made the following appointments: Rick Shappy, town energy coordinator; Earl Bessette, John McKinley and Paul Audy as fence viewers; Phyllis Smith, representative to the Addison County Solid Waste District; Richard Higbee, inspector of lumber, shingles and wood and weigher of coal; Michaela Granstrom as library trustee; and Dave Wetmore, 911 coordinator.

Biologist to discuss living with coyotes

NEW HAVEN —Chris Shadler will present “Living with Coyotes” on Friday, Jan. 17, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the New Haven Town Hall, with a discussion to follow. Shadler is a sheep farmer and wild canid biologist who works with Project Coyote, an organization that promotes management policies that reduce human-coyote conflict and supports innovative scientific coyote research.
