There has been a lot of press coverage of a recent letter issued by Act 250 on whether the WhistlePig LLC distillery is “farming” for Act 250 purposes. The complete story should be heard.

WhistlePig Act 250 opinion could affect Vermont agriculture

SHOREHAM — Raj Peter Bhatka’s argument that his proposed whiskey distillery should be considered a farm operation does not hold water and therefore should be subject to Act 250 review as a commercial enterprise, according to a recent opinion issued by District 9 Environmental Commission Coordinator Jeffrey Green.

And the reason Green believes Bhatka’s argument doesn’t hold water is because the whiskey he would make will hold a lot of water.

Whistle Pig, neighbor at odds over Act 250 permit and right to expand operation

SHOREHAM — A disagreement between Whistle Pig Rye LLC and Solar Haven Farm LLC, neighboring property owners on Bates Road in Shoreham, may be going to court.

A pre-hearing conference is scheduled with lawyers from both parties on Tuesday, Jan. 15, with site visits to both farms.

Goshen Zoning Board OKs gravel pit on Route 73 property

GOSHEN — Town officials in Goshen have approved a three-year gravel removal project on property located on Route 73.

The Goshen Zoning Board of Adjustment granted a conditional use permit for mineral extraction to property owners John Sherry, William Tessier and Clifford Bauman to mine roughly 100,000 cubic yards of gravel from their property located on the south side of Route 73, approximately 1,200 feet east of the intersection of Route 73 and Hathaway Road.
