County firefighters honored for their dedicated service

VERGENNES — Lt. Gov. Phil Scott knows what it means to have one’s life upended by a fire. A year ago a fire struck his business, DuBois Construction, in Middlesex.

In his keynote address at the Addison County Firefighters Association annual meeting at the Eagles Club in Vergennes last Wednesday evening, Scott shared his personal experience of the dedication and bravery of Vermont firefighters. He recounted the heroic efforts he witnessed as firefighters worked through the night and over the course of several days responding to flare-ups.

Local firefighters earn honors

BENNINGTON — County firefighters won three of the 10 major statewide awards handed out at the Vermont State Firefighters Association’s annual convention, which was hosted by the Bennington Fire Department on Aug. 17, 18 and 19.

Two were members of the Bristol Fire Department.

Justin Jackman was named the Emergency Maintenance Technician of the Year.

Cadet Will Elwell earned the distinction of Junior Firefighter of the Year.

County firefighters celebrate success

VERGENNES — Firefighters from 17 local towns showed up in festive fashion last Wednesday evening for the annual dinner of the Addison County Firefighters Association (ACFA). 

But they weren’t the only ones in attendance at the Addison County Eagles Club. A crew of Canadian firefighters came down to learn what makes Addison County firefighting squads so dynamic.
