Commodore junior tops paper team

ADDISON COUNTY — Addison County teams have won eight of the past 12 Vermont Division II high school baseball championships. Of course six of those titles belong to Mount Abraham, but in June Vergennes — the 2008 winner — joined the multiple-crown club by defeating Missisquoi in the final, 4-3.

The winning pitcher in that game also scored the winning run — Commodore junior Devin Hayes, the 2012 Addison Independent Baseball Player of the Year and the top pick for the 2012 Addison Independent Baseball All-Star Team.

Tiger is three-time Player of the Year

ADDISON COUNTY — The spring of 2012 proved to be solid across the board for the local high school softball teams. Vergennes surged to a 14-5 record and a berth in the Division II semifinals, while the other three squads played well enough to earn home playoff games.

Eagle sophomore leads Independent team

ADDISON COUNTY — A deep and disciplined Mount Abraham Union High School group enjoyed the best season among local girls’ basketball teams, earning the top seed in Division II and reaching the final in Barre.

While the hard-working Eagles had many contributors, one stood out for her across-the-board efforts — sophomore Ashlie Fay, the 2012 Addison Independent Player of the Year.

Versatile Eagle leads Independent all-stars

ADDISON COUNTY — A Mount Abraham Union High School junior who had a strong all-around season on the mound, at the plate and in the field is the Addison Independent Player of the Year and leads the Independent’s 2011 Baseball All-Star Team — one that for the first time ever does not include a senior.

ADDISON COUNTY — Slugging Middlebury Union High School junior catcher Mattea Bagley repeats as the Independent's Softball Player of the Year and headlines the 2011 Addison Independent Softball All-Star Team.

At least two athletes from each of the four local teams are recognized here after a season in which Mount Abraham, Otter Valley, MUHS and Vergennes probably didn’t finish as well as hoped, but all still accomplished something positive.

ADDISON COUNTY — Two high school seniors who helped their teams reach Barre Auditorium share 2011 Addison IndependentGirls’ Basketball Player of the Year honors, Mount Abraham’s Jenn Loyer and Middlebury’s Katie Ritter.

Three more seniors, one each from Otter Valley, Vergennes and Middlebury, join them on the 2011 Addison Independent Girls’ Basketball All-Stars first team.
