Students and community come together for ANeSU arts festival

BRISTOL — Mount Abraham Union High School veritably exploded with color, sound and movement last week during the three-day Addison Northeast Supervisory Union Fine Arts Festival.

“The arts festival gives us a chance to pause and honor the arts and to honor the artist within our students,” said Mandy Chesley-Park, who together with Jennifer Allred coordinated the festival.

Bristol-area students get a bang out of taiko drumming

BRISTOL — Busloads of elementary students arrived at Mount Abraham Union High School Thursday to watch a performance from Burlington Taiko, led by master taiko drummer Stuart Paton, and then take taiko drumming workshops, a few classes at a time.

The performance was part of the annual Addison Northeast Supervisory Union Fine Arts Festival (see story here).

ANeSU residents question school merger law

BRISTOL — Monday night’s Act 46 forum for the five towns in the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union drew appreciation for the intensely detailed work the ANeSU Act 46 Committee is engaged in.

It also saw a fair heap of skepticism as to the potential benefits of school district unification and a series of eloquent and impassioned defenses of the value and mechanisms of local control.

Date set for vote on governance of Bristol-area schools

BRISTOL — Residents in the Bristol-area towns in the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union will vote on whether to institute a unified union governance structure that would put all schools in the district under one school board and one budget.

The ANeSU Act 46 committee announced last Friday that it will hold a vote on a unified union school governance structure for the five-town area.

MUMS principal Patrick Reen hired to run ANeSU district

BRISTOL — Middlebury Union Middle School Principal Patrick Reen has been chosen to be the next Addison Northeast Supervisory Union superintendent. Reen will begin as superintendent July 1.

Residents in the five towns that comprise the ANeSU, and members of the school community, met with Reen Monday afternoon, and the ANeSU board interviewed the 37-year-old Bristol resident on Monday evening.

Two Mt. Abe principal finalists to meet the public this week

BRISTOL — Residents in the Bristol area this week will have a chance to meet and talk with the two finalists in the search for the next Mount Abraham Union Middle/High School principal.

Candidates Jessica Barewicz and Chris Smith will come to Mount Abe for a day-long visit this Thursday, March 17. Feedback forms will be available for stakeholders to provide written input to the principal search committee. A third finalist withdrew over the weekend.

BRISTOL — Middlebury Union Middle School Principal Patrick Reen has emerged as the finalist candidate for superintendent of Addison Northeast Supervisory Union. (See "Reen says listening and building relationships are his strengths.")

“The search committee was very impressed with Patrick,” said Robert Stevens, the educational consultant hired by ANeSU to facilitate its search for a superintendent.

ANeSU students enjoy extra-curriculars

BRISTOL — For students in the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union, the day is hardly over when the afternoon bell rings. They’re not just participating in sports or getting some extra tutoring from a teacher; rather, in four of the five ANeSU elementary schools, students can be found learning everything from tai chi, to cooking, to making jewelry.

The workshops and classes are part of ANeSU’s Expanded Learning Program (ELP), a series of after-school experiential learning classes held in six-week sessions throughout the school year and the summer.

Bristol-area schools curb spending, maintain programs
