By John Flowers

RIPTON — Ripton officials are getting their town ready to participate in the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program, which provides renewable energy incentives for local residents. With that in mind, the Ripton selectboard recently adopted a PACE program description and guidelines for the program. Efficiency Vermont will administer the program for the town.

The selectboard is considering having the Addison County Sheriff’s Department periodically monitor the town shed in wake of unauthorized dumping of trash at that location between recycling dates.

CORNWALL — Only a few months after settling the longstanding question of what to do with the old Lavalley store building (it will be removed), Cornwall citizens must now consider the future of another historic structure: School house No. 5, located on South Bingham Street.

The old school building, currently unused, needs roof repairs, according to Cornwall Road Foreman Stu Johnson.

Officials are considering whether shingles, slate or some other material should be used in repairing or replacing the roof.

Whiting considers dog ordinance

Posted on May 31, 2012 |
By Andrea Suozzo

WHITING — Following a dog bite incident in January, the Whiting selectboard has decided on the need for an animal ordinance.

The town still has 15 unregistered dogs, according to recent reports. Owners must provide proof that dogs have rabies shots upon registration, and the selectboard has agreed that it must have an ordinance as a matter of public safety. An ordinance would allow the town to enforce registration and safety in the case of dog bites.

New rate will save Monkton funds

Posted on August 11, 2011 |
By Andrew Stein

MONKTON — The Monkton selectboard on July 25 announced that the bond taken out in 2002 to fund the 2003 fire station addition was refinanced by the Vermont Municipal Bond Bank at a lower interest rate. Meeting minutes indicated that this reduction in future interest payments will save the town money.

“Interest rate reductions don’t kick in until 2015 … so the refinancing will only affect the last two years of bond payments and will only … range from $700 to $1,000 in savings,” said Charles Roumas, town treasurer.

PANTON — Panton selectmen have called a special town meeting on June 28 to deal with two financial issues. Both are related to the fact that the town is over budget.
