Bristol hears road safety proposals

BRISTOL — The intersection in front of Holley Hall in downtown Bristol will likely get a bit of a makeover to fix what the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) says are safety issues.

The Bristol selectboard heard two alternative designs for the intersection presented by VTrans and Stantec Consulting at the board’s Monday, Dec. 3, meeting.

Bristol bookstore expands offerings

BRISTOL — “Have you ever played an instrument?” said Melissa Hernandez, proprietor of downtown Bristol’s secondhand bookstore, Recycled Reading of Vermont. “I tell everyone, you can play a song in 30 seconds.”

Bristol downtown returning to health

BRISTOL — Just a few years after a recession-induced slump prompted the closure of several Main Street businesses, downtown Bristol is making a comeback.

This summer marked the opening of Lulu’s ice cream shop by the owners of Mary’s Restaurant, Danielle Smith’s Little Babycakes baby clothing store, and Rory Jackson’s painting studio and gallery space.

Bristol's downtown designation renewed

BRISTOL — Downtown Bristol has been a state Designated Downtown district since 2006. Every five years, the Bristol Downtown Community Partnership is required to apply for a renewal of the town’s designation.

On Monday, before the Bristol selectboard’s meeting, Bristol Town Administrator Bill Bryant and Carol Wells, director of the Bristol Downtown Community Partnership (BDCP) and a selectboard member, made the trek to Montpelier to defend Bristol’s downtown title for the first time.
