Bristol prepares to talk town plan, drugs

BRISTOL — Next week Bristol officials will hold two important public meetings: The selectboard will discuss the proposed town plan for the final time before convening formal public hearings and Bristol Police Chief Kevin Gibbs will meet with the community to discuss drug issues in town.

Bristol asks for details on land easement

Bristol police given new tool to fight crime in park

BRISTOL — In response to public debate over how Bristol officials should handle a recent uptick in offensive behavior like swearing and fighting on the town green, the Bristol selectboard last Monday gave the Bristol Police Department the power to issue 30-day no trespass orders for all town properties.

Bristol board discusses real estate, police and more

BRISTOL — At its Monday meeting, the Bristol selectboard met with Kristen Underwood of the town conservation commission to discuss possible real estate negotiations.

The meeting was held behind closed doors in executive session and Town Administrator Bill Bryant declined to discuss the details of the real estate negotiations.

No decisions have yet been made regarding the negotiations, he said, and if an agreement is met, the town would release the details.

Bristol board plans Howden Hall upgrade

BRISTOL — The oldest town building in Bristol, Howden Hall, is about to get what officials say are some much-needed upgrades.

With roughly $75,000 in the town’s Howden Hall Capital Reserve Fund, the Howden Hall Committee — with the selectboard’s approval — is moving ahead with electrical upgrades, moisture reduction measures, weatherization improvements and possibly some wheel-chair accessibility measures.

At a meeting last week, the Bristol selectboard hired project manager Ed Hanson at a rate of $50 an hour to oversee the process.

Bristol selectboard OKs water, sewer budgets

BRISTOL — The Bristol selectboard kicked off its Monday meeting by holding annual public hearings for the water district, sewer district and landfill.

All three spending plans for next fiscal year reflect decreases from this year. Next year’s spending level for:

•  The landfill was set at $155,250, down 1.5 percent from this year’s budgeted spending of $157,600.

•  The water district was set at $247,700, down 5 percent from this year’s 260,700.

Bristol residents demand clarity in new town plan

BRISTOL — Most of the roughly three dozen people at Holley Hall Monday evening for the Bristol selectboard’s first public hearing on a new draft of the town plan showed overwhelming support for the general vision of the proposal. Nevertheless, a range of fundamental changes were proposed.

The selectboard will consider these proposed changes at its May 21 meeting, and likely will hold two more hearings, selectboard chairman John “Peeker” Heffernan said.

Bristol board questions revised draft of town plan

BRISTOL — In preparation for the Bristol selectboard’s May 14 public hearing on the new draft of the town plan, the board met with the town’s planning commission at its Monday meeting (to read the draft, click here).

Selectwoman Carol Wells, wife of former planning commission Chair Tom Wells, took issue with the plan’s lack of clarity surrounding a key component: resource extraction.

Bristol selectboard receives plan

BRISTOL — After last week’s town meeting, the Bristol selectboard regrouped on Monday at Holley Hall to receive a newly proposed town plan, choose a new chair and tend to a range of timely matters.

After the Bristol Planning Commission last week approved a long-debated land-use section in the proposed town plan, the planners wrapped up their revision process and sent the document to the selectboard. The board received the new document and on April 23 will meet with members of the planning commission, who will highlight certain elements of the plan.
