Opinion: Budding artists feted in Bristol

Art on Main in Bristol had an amazing reception on March 7. It was to recognize our Emerging Artists from Mount Abraham Union High School.

It was one of the best receptions held there. Seventy-seven students, parents, relatives and friends crowded into the gallery in tribute to these students along with three faculty and two gallery staff.

Bristol Police Log: Police respond to suspicious vehicle call

BRISTOL — Bristol police recently issued a log of their activity for the month of January. A notable call that month came on Jan. 24 when an officer responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on West Street. The driver said she couldn’t get cell service in Lincoln, so she was using her computer and iPad from West Street.

When the driver said she was cold and unable to start her car, police provided her with a cup of hot chocolate and jump-started her car.

Bristol Police Log: Authorities respond to accidents, thefts in December

BRISTOL — Bristol police recently issued a log of their activities this past December.

On Dec. 18 at 3:30 p.m. they responded to a report that a teenage girl was approached on the sidewalk between Mount Abraham Union High School and Liberty Street by a man unknown to her.

The man called the girl by the name of a different girl, and attempted to hug her. The girl refused the embrace and insisted he had mistaken her for someone else.

Dentist sets up shop in Bristol

BRISTOL — A new dental practice has opened in the BristolWorks business complex that aims to expand dental coverage to residents of all walks of life throughout the five-town area.

The clinic, Red Clover Family Dentistry, opened last month and is headed by Patrick Rowe, D.D.S.

Rowe said the practice will accept Medicaid, and will offer a sliding scale payment system for patients who need assistance paying their bill.

Bristol Police Log: November a busy month for cops

BRISTOL — Bristol police recently submitted a log of their activity from November 2013. The major offenses were reported closer to the times of the incidents, but the following is the full log for November, when Bristol police:

•  On Nov. 1 responded to a report of a suspicious man in the woods near Merchants Bank. The man was not found.

•  On Nov. 1 responded to 61 Pine St. for a reported burglar alarm and found an employee had unknowingly tripped it.

ANeSU budget calls for tax hike in towns

BRISTOL — About two dozen Addison Northeast Supervisory Union voters on Tuesday unanimously adopted all the articles on the agenda at the Mount Abraham Union High School annual meeting and discussed a district budget that would raise taxes for each of the five towns.

The voters present from the five ANeSU towns elected school officials and set their salaries, and debated details of the roughly $14.1 million Mount Abraham budget.

Weston resigns from planning commission

BRISTOL — A member of the Bristol Planning Commission resigned abruptly during a meeting Feb. 18. Longtime commission member Ken Weston handed a letter of resignation to his colleagues shortly after the meeting began.

Nine minutes into the meeting, during debate about the Bristol Cohousing Project, Weston handed a letter to chair Chico Marin.

“I can’t take part in this discussion any longer,” Weston said.

Starksboro woman cited in Bristol theft

BRISTOL — Police arrested a Starksboro woman on Feb. 23 and cited her for larceny in connection with a theft that occurred a week earlier.

Police allege Chastity A. Pecor, 29, stole a wallet from a vehicle parked at the First Baptist Church in Bristol on Feb. 16. Police said that after taking the wallet, Pecor took $72 in cash from it, and then left the wallet next to the front door of the police station.

Pecor is due to answer the charge in Addison County Superior Court, criminal division, on April 7.

Two Perlees face each other in Bristol selectboard race

BRISTOL — Two in-laws with the same surname will face off for the same open three-year seat on the Bristol selectboard: Kris Perlee and Michelle Perlee.

Michelle Perlee is the wife of Kris Perlee’s cousin, Chad Perlee. Both Perlees are seeking the seat being vacated by incumbent selectboard member Alan Huizenga, who decided not to run for election.

Bristol Police Log: Police probe a phone scam

BRISTOL — Bristol police recently twice cited a town woman for driving with a suspended license.

Police on Jan. 5 saw Melodie A. Campbell, 41, driving a vehicle on East Street, and later discovered that Campbell was prohibited by conditions of release from two previous driving-with-suspended-license citations. Police again saw Campbell driving on Jan. 30, and arrested her. Campbell is due to answer the charges in Addison County Superior Court on March 3.
