Bristol Police Log: Town man arrested for sale of heroin

BRISTOL — Bristol police on Tuesday arrested a Bristol man for the sale of heroin. Ernest Winslow Cushman, 23, was collared after what police described as an “extensive investigation” by Officer Joshua Otey and Sergeant Randy Crowe.

Cushman was arrested at 10:15 p.m. during a traffic stop conducted by Vermont State Police and Vergennes police.

Bristol Police Log: 18-year-old Lincoln woman cited for heroin

BRISTOL — Police arrested a Lincoln woman for the sale of heroin Nov. 8. Kimberly Rose Jimmo, 18, was arrested after police observed her selling what they said was heroin to a confidential informant.

After an extensive investigation, Jimmo was identified as a person of interest who was reportedly selling heroin in and around the Bristol area, police said.

Bristol clinic lands $812,500 grant to expand service to the needy

BRISTOL — A six-figure federal grant announced last week will enable a Bristol medical clinic to expand its services, particularly to low- and moderate-income residents in Addison County.

The Five Town Health Alliance was awarded $812,500, which will be put toward expanding services at the Mountain Health Center in BristolWorks complex. It was one of three practices in Vermont that were designated as “community health centers.”

Gateway to Bristol' project gains ground

BRISTOL — The Vermont Land Trust has teamed up with local supporters and members of the Bristol Conservation Commission to protect the scenic corridor north of Bristol on Route 116. The “Gateway to Bristol” project is moving toward a successful outcome and conservation easements will be placed on 687 acres of farm fields and woodlands in early 2014.

Bristol Police Log: Three cited for driving-related crimes

BRISTOL — Bristol police in the past week reported three cases in which they cited area residents for driving-related offenses.

On Oct. 31 at 11:42 p.m. police stopped a car driven by Bryon J. Carper, 23, of Bristol on West Street in Bristol. Police said Carper’s blood alcohol content tested more than three times the legal limit for driving and they cited him for driving under the influence. He is due to answer the charge in Addison Superior Court, Criminal Division, on Nov. 18.

Bristol selectboard reacts to Lathrop pit decision

BRISTOL — The Bristol selectboard will ask the Vermont Environmental Court to further explain some of the provisions in its Oct. 18 decision on a controversial gravel pit proposal in town.

The board held a special session Oct. 28 to review and discuss a decision by Environmental Court Judge Thomas Durkin to grant approval for the long-proposed Lathrop gravel pit.

Bristol Police Log: September 2013

BRISTOL — The Bristol Police Department handled a wide range of law enforcement activities during the month of September. In activity reported by Bristol Police Chief Kevin Gibbs recently, Bristol officers:

•  On Sept. 1 assisted with a medical related call at a Maple Street residence without incident.

Raccoon, fox suspected of rabies in Bristol

BRISTOL — Town officials in Bristol are urging residents to be on the lookout for possible rabid animals. In October, there have been two reported incidents of wild animals with rabies, Town Administrator Bill Bryant said in a statement.

In the first incident, on Oct. 3, a rabid raccoon bit a man through the boot near Hardscrabble Road. The second incident, on Oct. 21, involved a “dying but apparently rabid fox on Mountain Street,” Bryant said.

Addison Otters swim team invites kids to check them out

NEW HAVEN/BRISTOL — Coaches of the Addison Otters Swim Team are inviting area youngsters to come learn more about the organization’s program this week.

The Otters will host an information and registration night on Wednesday, Oct. 16, beginning at 6 p.m. at the New Haven firehouse. All youth in grades K-12 are welcome.

Starksboro couple teams up with Mount Abe to fight hunger

STARKSBORO — A Starksboro couple is spearheading an effort to send more than a quarter of a million meals to hungry children in Haiti, and is enlisting the help of students and student athletes at Mount Abraham Union High School.

Nancy and Greg Orvis are raising money for With Love From Vermont, a Chittenden County-based charity that reaches into Addison and Rutland counties, which sends food packages to targeted audiences in poor countries.
